They cleared out a wooded patch of overgrown brush by a lacrosse field and my dauchsoandvi found about 20 lacrosse balls that had been there for years that were a mess. I made this tool last night and put an egg corn nut on the inside of the pvc cap and it worked pretty well. I used some light sand paper which worked good but I am going to get the varnish stripper pad today.

Appreciate the video for doing this cheap, but there are better methods! I found standard denatured alcohol and a rag restored the ball to the original tack better than resurfacing. I tried a few of these ball resurfacers and the ball bucket one with the disc works very good. From what I found the only time you really need a resurfacer tool is if there's damage to the ball or something has really reduced the grip beyond what the alcohol can clean. Resurfacers also don't work well on newer ball designs with coarse surfaces and indentations.
@sandhillslacrosseassociati56742 жыл бұрын
Glad that works for you. I've found that solvents break down the rubber and then they dry rot faster. I have a bucket also, but the sanding pads are expensive.
@WillyDrucker2 жыл бұрын
@@sandhillslacrosseassociati5674 Hard rubber should be impervious to alcohol, I guess time will tell. I made my own bucket and bought a 4 pack of 80 grit pads for $5.99 at HD. I used 3M 90 Contact Adhesive to glue them to the disc and side walls. Worked well. Probably a bit of mess to replace the pads, but can also glue over the existing ones I suppose.
@sandhillslacrosseassociati56742 жыл бұрын
@@WillyDrucker I did the same. I made my own bucket and went through sandpaper like crazy. My initial $5.99 investment turned into $20 really fast. Like I said, glad you have a solution that works for you. This is just another tool for the toolbox.

@@WillyDrucker "Exposing rubber to rubbing alcohol infrequently can cause discoloration and deterioration, but prolonged use of isopropyl alcohol will wear down and eventually destroy it. Ensure the longevity of rubber by keeping it away from rubbing alcohol." I'm not a chemist, but this was the first search result I found.

I think its great that you are doing a video like this for parents and new players. One thing that should be corrected is that in the girl's game, the circle around the goal is NOT the crease, it is a goal circle. Just an FYI

Does the clock stop after a score? Great vid! Thanks.
@sandhillslacrosseassociati56743 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't until inside of the last 2 min of each half. This is a major difference from boys lacrosse where the time stops after out of bounds and after every goal until the point differential is met, then the clock doesn't stop. For girls, the clock won't stop inside of the 2 min if a point differential is met. (Used to be called the murder rule). Good question!
@sandhillslacrosseassociati56743 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add that the officials will stop the clock for an injury or an officials time out, as well

It does stop, then you go back to serve off again, and the clock doesn’t start until you are a actually in gameplay.

Great insight by Kylie. As a coach I think I'd do a drill that starts very specifically on this, perhaps player against coach, then go player against player. Have dodger/attack start with the ball, against the coach but in the athletic position Kylie mentions. Player agressively steps away to create space, then coach comes at the player (slowly to start) and makes it clear the decision for the player to make, either go top side if the coach comes low angle, or face dodge if the coach goes high.

Quick update. Save a few dollars and don't buy the kit. Just buy the varnish pads. It's easier to contour the ball when it isn't against the flat pad. I finished the ball you see in the demo in under 5 min. Also, make sure you thread all of the pieces onto your threaded rod before you leave the store to ensure they are the same thread count. I ended up buying a mix of galvanized and stainless to find all the pieces I wanted.
