I remember when i was a little boy, travelling all over Scotland with my late Father, who was an HGV delivery driver, loved stopping their, when it was just a patch of flat ground, looking through my little Binoculars, trying to find the Rein Deer, always said i am going to take my own grandchildren up to do the same, need to do it soon..

You picked a good time to visit. 12:31 and 15:13. The time I went, there was no water flowing and the level was much lower than the overflow so we didn't get to see this aspect.

I grew up here also, and remember exploring the megalithic tombs in the West Fermanagh area with my father. In those historic places, if you listened closely to the wind, you could almost hear the spirits of our ancestors and the heartbeats of the generations of people who came before us. These hidden places where teachers had once run hedge schools, trying to hide from the ever-watching armies. In later years, they brought us different memories, being watched daily by foreign British Army soldiers and their continual noisy helicopters echoing from the green hills around us. There were also pleasant reminiscences of helping the farmers save their hay or assisting my mechanic father fixing their broken tractors in those shorn fields on a hot summer's day. These treasured memories made me the person whom I am, and the forged anamnesis recalls another generation in time

I was born and raised in lovely part of Fermanagh. I'm 66 years old now and because of the pandemic I haven't been in the home village for some time. One cannot deny the incredible natural beauty of the landscape, the beauty and superb fishing on Lough Melvin, the mountains , and, the amazing serenity that seems to cover the area but none of those attributes will put bread on the tables of those people who are in business in the area. I greatly admire all those who have remained living in the area and, even more so, those who are running businesses in the area. It must be very difficult to keep everything going and make a good living. I hope that Garrison doesn't become a victim of Brexit, just as it did when the border roads were forcibly closed. As a native ,I love the village, although I would never live there again, but I still would love to see it thriving. Good luck to all my old neighbours ,family and friends for the future. God bless, Gerry Farry.
