It may not be a hiking video but its definitely a classic Caps Outdoors Video. That trip looks like a ton of fun. That area of PA is beautiful. Every year when I take a trip to the Carolinas, I love taking 81 Vs 95 to bypass D.C. A little out of the way but totally worth driving through that area

I got to say, if you can get it planned to do the trail, you have to do it! It is an incredible ride. And you don't even need to do what I did, you can hop from town to town and stay in a B&B/Motel/Hotel every night if you want to. Enjoy the semi-pemi again, then settle in for a feature length with this one, LOL!

My fave place. I spent a week there backpacking in 1975! Nice to see you can still get in there. Decades ago they were gonna close the road in there. Ahh Oxshoe pond leanto. Just before you get there, if you turn right off the path you can access a rock shelf across the pond for a nice place to camp. Crab, horseshoe, lily, rock, putnam ponds. Rock pond, I pulled some nice brookies out of there in the late 70's. I'm physically unable to do this anymore, but you gave me wonderful memories!!!

Heard a story about that area and supposedly it’s true. Spanish pirates stashed some gold in a cave on Pharoh mountain. Anyone with further info please do tell the story. In the early to mid 1800s some locals boys were playing with two Indian boys who showed them were it was.

I was born (1936) and raised in Beacon and first hiked and climbed the tower in the 1950's. It was still being manned by forest rangers, one of whom I met while he was on duty. George Ketchum was his name and was the longest serving ranger (1940 to 1971). He was an amiable man who invited me into the tower and explained his duties and let me use his binoculars for extended views of my beloved Hudson Valley. Not only did I hike Mt. Beacon numerous times but also had the occasion to to ride the incline railway which was still operating when I was a teenager. You brought back many happy memories of my "growing up and discovery" days.

That is a fantastic story, and I can see why it would be so memorable for you. I feel humbled I could provide you the avenue to relive that for a little while. You are going to have a great time, it is such an isolated lake, so quiet at night. If you can luck out and find a canoe, I highly recommend watching out for a clear, low wind night. Take the canoe out into the middle of the lake and look forward. The stars reflect off the water, making it look like you are floating through them.

Great video. Pharaoh lake is one of my favorite places in the ADK. Leanto #3 is frequently taken. One time sone idiot kids had tents in there and they were obstinate and rude about my friend and I staying. We ended up cowboy camping close by. They didn’t particularly care about the guidelines regarding leantos. They were jerks. I’ve never hiked Treadway. Maybe I’ll will soon 😊 I’ve always wanted to leanto hop since there is so much to explore there but multi day trips are challenging for me Take care!
@capsoutdoors3 ай бұрын
Thank you! It is funny you mention tents in a leanto, the guy that I came across in #3 had his hammock setup in it. I was going to say something but left it at a few disappointing words and moved on. Came across another guy heading that way when I was leaving and when I told him, he started flipping out because his tent was broke. As for the multi-day trips, is it just time that prohibits it?

The hike up Pharaoh lake mountain is short but brutal I hope your back feels better!
