Here is what I've been doing lately. Started to get more into PVP and also doing some co-op. My friend played through ER on PS5 and he sold the game after completing it but after he saw the DLC trailer he bought it on a Steam once again :D We did almost all of the duo and trio bosses in co-op somewhat underleveled and it was kinda cool. Fighting the Godskin Duo or the Crucible Knight - Misbegotten Warrior combo together and switching opponents mid fight. Dark Souls Archthrones demo also dropped and it's honestly insane how much modding has evolved. They've built up whole new levels like Carthus and some enemies and bosses can use attacks from Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Sekiro, DS3 and DS1 at the same time. I also bought Blasphemous on a Steam sale and that is a pixel art masterpiece as well.

See I feel like the level design was actually pretty fun and open without it having to be open world. Lies of P turned out to be one of my favorite games of this year, my biggest gripe was the overly simplified level design it was just too linear. If lies of P had the level design that lords of the fallen had it would literally be a near perfect game for me. But the enemy density and the repetitiveness in Lords of the fallen turned me off to that game. There was definitely fun parts, but I ultimately enjoyed the soul's games and lies of P more than this one

Idk if you are actually talking about level design here but i think the level design is actually pretty fantastic tbh . The level of complexity that the devs dealt with regarding shortcuts and the umbral realm impresses me more than any level design fromsoft ware has yet to display . Not sure how this isnt being recognized . The two overlapping worlds is insanely impressive .

I might not have expressed it well enough in the video, but my main frustration is with the enemy density and where they're placed, which is a part of level design. Aside from that I'd say it was pretty good, but I still think Dark Souls did it better!

I don’t think he was an ancestor- while this might be a lukewarm defence of a reskin, I’m pretty confident that Godefroy actually is a body double. He’s not mentioned by Morgott when talking about the thrones of the ‘wilful traitors’, and mentioned only in passing by a few memorials in the game world. What we know about Godrick on the other hand, is that he was a massive coward who hid when he knew he might be bested - first escaping Leyndell using the Mimic Veil, and hiding from Radahn in Stormveil. It’s unlikely that Godrick would have gone to the Altus battlefield personally, especially with the Fell Omen prowling, but his men would need a figure to rally around, and Godefroy would be Godricks physical representation on the battlefield - one that could be killed and replaced if necessary. If Godrick has the power of mimicry (he did steal that veil, after all), he might have used magic to cook up a body double to serve as his counterpart on the battlefield. The issue with this theory is of course that Godrick likely started grafting during the shattering, so a fully fledged Godefroy copy might be a little tricky to justify choronologically. Alternatively- given that grafting seems like a very scary, complicated thing, and Godrick is a huge coward- he might have designed his future body on another person first, before committing to grafting his own. It would be very funny and very in character for Godrick to see his grafted body double , followed loyally by thousands of men, lead the assault on the capital , feel inferior and jealous, and then start grafting himself identically using arguably inferior tarnished parts.

I wouldn't say disappointing, but I think it has WAY more flaws than people say it does. So much obnoxious and borderline troll-y design, the open world is unimmersive, the exploration is mostly unrewarding, and the amount of repetition is insane. I cannot wrap my head around how this got 10/10 reviews. I still feel more positive than negative about it, but at the end of the day I think it's a good/very good game that is overrated to a not-insignificant degree.
@LukeA.M.
@LukeA.M. Жыл бұрын
I see what you're saying, but aside from a lot of exploration just leading to crafting materials (which is pretty unrewarding), the same can be said for a lot of the other games in the series. Dark Souls II and Demon's Souls are disgusting when it comes to bad level and enemy design, becoming so unforgiving to the point that it's unfair (more so in DSII). Elden Ring does a lot to counteract those types of situations, mainly just by having an overall better design. It's definitely annoying at some points, but I wouldn't say it's trolly, especially compared to the other games in the series. The caves and catacombs are for sure monotonous, but it's not like you HAVE to replay them in NG+, and it's an open world game, so just by it's nature there are going to be reskins, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as it's done the right way, although there's a few times in Elden Ring where it's pretty dumb not gonna lie. I don't know why you don't find the world to be immersive, but I think most people did.
@GOAT-rl2uq
@GOAT-rl2uq Жыл бұрын
@@LukeA.M. Immersion is obviously very very subjective (even more than the other stuff), but what it comes down to for me is that it doesn't feel like a real place. Game worlds like Skyrim or Red Dead 2 have a level of depth and detail to them that make them feel like real places, like the kind that someone might conceivably live in. The world of ER feels very "video gamey" to me, like it doesn't really make sense outside of the context of it being a video game. Put it like this: Skyrim feels like a place that could exist even without the player, whereas ER feels like the whole world is set up specifically to be a challenge for the player character. I mean, it obviously is, but my point is that a really immersive game makes it feel like it isn't.
@GOAT-rl2uq
@GOAT-rl2uq Жыл бұрын
@@LukeA.M. As for the exploration compared to other souls games, I think you're correct in saying it isn't that different from the previous games in the series, but I think what makes the difference is that ER is open world, so there's so much more effort that goes into exploring. More effort for the same generally quite unrewarding payoff makes it feel worse.
@LukeA.M.
@LukeA.M. Жыл бұрын
@@GOAT-rl2uq I get that. The whole series including ER is immersive in a different way (at least for me because it is subjective) than games like Skyrim. I don't dislike those types of games, but I prefer something more like ER most of the time because it feels like the world is specifically crafted to be a massive challenge the player is meant to traverse, instead of trying to replicate real life within the bounds of its worldbuilding. Sure, Elden Ring has some really awesome lore and worldbuilding, but it isn't a place I would want to live in or get used to, and even the NPCs and their dialogue make the whole experience feel like a warped version of reality like it's a fever dream or something, which I love. It's supposed to be more of a giant puzzle/ mystery for the player, and really is more about the gameplay than the story. And the exploration is unrewarding a lot of times, but when it WAS rewarding, I feel like it kind of made up for it. I definitely understand how it can be unlikeable though.

That's the banner of the Stormhawk King. The Bird. The former ruler of Stormveil. Not Godefroy. Also both Godrick and Godefroy assaulted the royal capital together, with Kristoff imprisoning Godefroy and Godrick escaping with some riches.
@LukeA.M.
@LukeA.M. Жыл бұрын
I don't know what specific lore mentions Godrick and Godefroy working together to invade Leyndell, but I have seen some people saying that they did it together, and that Godrick escaped because he's a coward, and I can't really disprove that. BUT, if they did invade Leyndell, then it would make sense that those banners are theirs, or at least just Godefroy's. It could be the Stormhawk King's since it's literally a bird, but I haven't found anything saying that The Stormhawk King invaded Leyndell, or was even alive at that time. I could be wrong, but it seems that The Stormhawk King was the ruler of Stormveil BEFORE Godfrey and his descendants (those who started grafting) took over and made it theirs. This is because The Stormhawk King is referred to as ancient, and it seems that the stormhawks are now loyal to the current Limgrave rulers, and have been for awhile. The lore around this stuff is pretty vague, but it doesn't make too much sense for the banners to not be Godefroy's. There's two different banners, and two people from Limgrave who led the attack on Leyndell. If there's any lore evidence as to why I'm wrong on any of this, feel free to let me know in this thread, because due to the nature of Soulsborne lore, one item description can dismantle an entire interpretation of something, which is annoying but hilarious at the same time. I just couldn't find anything saying it WASN'T Godefroy's, and it just makes sense because he did invade Leyndell, and we barely know anything about The Stormhawk King.
@cuteerebos2155
@cuteerebos2155 Жыл бұрын
@@LukeA.M. Ok so let's do this one by one. Why do I believe Godefroy and Godrick invaded together: The Sword Monuments Describe two Defenses of Leyndell: 'The First Defense of Leyndell A sovereign alliance rots from within Traces yet remain of bloody conspiracy' 'The Second Defense of Leyndell The Fell Omen stacks high the corpses of heroes Yet the Erdtree remains unshaken' Only 2. One was Radagon, as we can see him getting demolished by Morgott in the Opening Cutscene. The First one was Godefroy, as stated in Kristoff's Ashes: 'After the First Defense of Leyndell, Kristoff earned the hero's honor of Erdtree Burial for the feat of capturing Godefroy the Grafted.' Unless Godrick invaded together with Radahn, which seems unlikely because they are competing demigods and Haight says 'then hid from Radahn in that castle', Godrick must have invaded with Godefroy. Now that's part one. Why do I believe the Symbol to be Stormhawk Kings? Two Item Descriptions: The Hawk Crest Wooden Shield's Description Reads: 'A tall, medium-sized wooden shield. Light for its size, and easy to handle. Adorned with a long-forgotten crest of Stormveil, ancient in design.' A crest that is ancient and from Stormveil points to the Stormhawk King. Not Godefroy. The Second Item Description is from the Ash of War Storm Blade: 'Lost skill of Stormveil. Surround armament with shearing storm winds that can be fired forward. Can be fired in rapid succession' This Ash of War flashes the Symbol of the Stormhawk King when it is used. Considering the Skill is lost (ancient) and uses 'shearing storms' (when winds raged like no other), it is probably the Stormhawk Kings Skill originally and not Godefroys. So yea. Here's my evidence. I guess it could be wrong, but you'd have to jump through quite a few loops to make Godefroy some ancient lost Master of Storms.
@LukeA.M.
@LukeA.M. Жыл бұрын
@@cuteerebos2155 You're right about Godefroy and Godrick invading together, as there's even an item description for the Mimic Veil that says it was something Godrick escaped with from Leyndell. Basically, all I'm saying in the video is that Godefroy was there for the invasion and got captured in the evergaol, and it's cool that it was a reference to the story trailer. It would make sense for Godrick and Godefroy to be using the same banner (the one on the Godrick knight armor), but for some reason the stormhawk banners are in Leyndell, not Godrick's. Obviously the invasion of Leyndell took place a long time ago, but the timeline really isn't clearly laid out. My theory would have to be that the people of Limgrave (even Godrick and Godefroy's forces) have some sort of reverence to The Stormhawk King since it's on their banners and stuff. The people of Limgrave probably served The Stormhawk King before The Golden Order, which might be why they fight alongside stormhawks now and use their image in their banners and shields. In the Stormhawk Deenh item description it says that Deenh was a stormhawk who served a certain king in Limgrave. Perhaps that was Godefroy and so his banner had the bird on it, or Deenh just served The Stormhawk King a long time ago and the hawk image is just used because they are revered. I honestly do not know, I just thought that since Godefroy clearly invaded Leyndell, then maybe those banners were his since Godrick's is different, and I saw the same idea perpetuated in another video and thought it was cool.

@@LukeA.M. Tbf Godrick and Godefroy do use Wind based Attacks and deploy hawks in their army alongside Knights who also have Storm Based Powers. So the God-Family clearly has a lot of connection to the Old Rulers of Limgrave and may also use their heraldry. Who knows. Most of this is never stated. The relationship between the Golden Lineage and the Stormhawk King is left in the Dark for the most part.

Disappointing exists on a scale. Someone can love the game and find some aspect of it disappointing. For example. I would rather have fewer total bosses if it meant more of them were entirely unique. The number of repeated bosses was certainly disappointing to me. Many bosses no longer felt special when I saw them 2 or 3 or more times. Liking a game, and being disappointed in it, are not mutually exclusive. I still enjoy Elden Ring a lot despite that flaw.
@LukeA.M.
@LukeA.M. Жыл бұрын
I totally understand that. I think if it's going to be an open-world game then there will be boss reskins and repetitive areas, because that's just the nature of a lot of open-world games, which can be done well or not so well. In Elden Ring, I don't think it was too bad because I expected it to happen (Godskin Duo and the 2 Astels were dumb though). When I say people were disappointed in the game, I meant it in a more generalized way, since some people believe it isn't on par with the other games in the series just because it has the characteristics of an open-world game. It's totally fine to believe that, but I see Elden Ring as more than just big Dark Souls, and as something that stands as a triumph due to many different factors, not just it's Soulsborne mechanics.

Then changes began and only recently have they decided to fix the main issues with PVP. So yes to me the game is disapointing just a little.
