How's that death rate? What genius policies are you talking about ?! It's horrible. But Sowell has told you the inconvenient truth. He means that you didn't poof into existence out of nothing however many years ago you were born. There are hundreds, sometimes thousands of years of history that precede you. So you should appreciate whatever goodness the society has afforded you, because you would undoubtedly be worse off had you been born without the benefits and the lessons of hundreds of years of history. Be forgiving of any bad things that same society had engaged in, because we're imperfect people living in an imperfect world, and you're viewing this with the benefit of hind sight.

Well - equality of opportunity means socialism Mr Sowell .If you are poor typically you cannot compete at schools with students whose parents provide everything . Can you? Therefore the only way to have equal opportunity is to have an egalitarian society . OR To correct this injustice by spending $ to supply MORE education to less privileged students .. IS there another moral way to deal with the problem ?
@xokelis0015
@xokelis0015 Жыл бұрын
Yet another so called "socialist" that doesn't even know what Socialism means. Socialism means government owned means of production, abolition of private property, and centralized collectivist totalitarian society. If you're poor you cannot compete? How did I make it from selling newspapers as a child because my parents could not afford to give me school money to the top 1% of people in the world if the poor cannot compete? I'll tell you how. Hard work. What a weak argument, from a weak individual, who blames the world for his own shortcomings. Socialism can be fundamentally distilled to one sentence, "Hate those who are better than you, and cry about it instead of looking to improve."
@dsgio7254
@dsgio7254 Жыл бұрын
@@xokelis0015 This is false. Socialism is not government ownership and control but workers ownership and control ;. This is the socialism the American left defends and , IT is not a secret,. ALL scientific literature and ALL common sense empirical evidence point to the exact opposite you are saying here: If you have wealthy parents you have mush more opportunity than people who cannot afford to send their kids to great schools and colleges or their kids they have to work from very young to survive, This is elementary dear. Socialism is not about jealousy is about opportunity for every one . IF you are born in poverty the rule is that you have MUCH less access to education and wealth. There are always exceptions. And exceptions do not define the rule. Example : In the beginning of the century there was racism and discrimination for African Americans. They had no access in education and good jobs. This is uncontroversial - So the fact that some African Americans escaped means that there was equal opportunity for everybody ?

@andrewjohnson8232
@andrewjohnson8232 10 ай бұрын
Sure that statement doesn't say as much about you as it does about society? Do you have any idea how academically decorated Sowell is? Al Sharpton is a public figure, a Christian preacher and political activist. Sowell is an academic who - as he states here - writes at a very high level and avoids the kind of media attention that Rev. Sharpton pursues. "Germans came with piano making skills, why would you expect Irish to be involved to the same level?" Is that really the basis of affirmative action? Or is that a telescoped caricature which appeals to people who resent what they sea as undeserved special treatment.

@@andrewjohnson8232 Thomas Sowell doesn't avoid media attention, the liberal media avoids Thomas Sowell because his narrative is not in line with liberal ideologies. "Special Treatment" of any kind based on your ethnicity is wrong. Shedding that is the ultimate goal. Affirmative Action was needed at one time in our history, but the goal is to get to the point where we abandon that temporary tool. John Robert's majority opinion in the Supreme Court case is an interesting read. I recommend you read it.

@@jimmoses6617 How many Noam Chomsky interviews have been on Fox? All media favours the advance of its corporate polemic. Thomas Sowell is the one who says he avoids media attention, and he receives a fair share of it. There aren't many serious academics who can be so readily cited by people who are usually entirely uninterested in academia. Of course the goal of any moral person is to see the end of ethnic discrimination, whether negative or favourable. But the same people who will foam at the mouth over affirmative action, will feel no dissatisfaction over America's atrocious social disparities and will be entirely dismissive of the history in which they are rooted. Stating that affirmative action opposes our social ideals and stating that the stratagem is an ideological con based on a false representation of naturally occurring and justifiable disparity are two different things. The first is, I think, a given, the second is... (insert expletives)
