In my honest opinion one of Runrig finest albums. If not the best. A sweet spot in the bands career. Thank you for posting. 😊

English translation of the text: Fair Haired Mary My fair-haired Mary, the blossom is now on the young branches The white swan is at rest on the lochs, as always was The dark foreboding clouds have now cleared away and scattered A new sun is rising A sun ripe with love, my fair-haired Mary Standing on the pier, a beautiful young girl, a fair one Light hearted and free, eyes full of spirit and laughter And the big ship of my heart is sailing from destruction to happiness For you are the flower in a dead garden The star in the darkest sky, my fair-haired Mary Heavy was the price we paid for the freedom that put an end to conflict and war Difficult the memories that will never leave the dreadful wilderness of Europe Now I live each day before me for the boys that will not be returning For the children still to be born And for a world overflowing with love, my fair-haired Mary So give me your hand, your kiss, your promise, your love, your heart And let us walk in joy through the young garden of creation For the moon of all our hopes is shining on the machair And on the path that stretches before us The path that reaches to eternity, my fair-haired Mary The white swan is at rest on the lochs, as always was *(handsome young men) You can find the lyrics + English translations here runrig.rocks/lyrics/the%20band%20from%20rockall.html

Probably my favourite Runrig song. Rory Macdonald seemed very touched when I told him after a concert at the Cambridge Corn Exchange back in the mid-90s.

I hadn't realised this song was ever performed live. Except for a few songs (The Greatest Flame, Flower of the West...), I have always preferred their album tracks to those selected - presumably by the record company- to become singles.

What are you talking about? It is just different & definitely not "totally ruined". Things need refreshing occasionally.

I was there! Donnie's arrival on stage thrilled me just as much as did Peter Gabriel's at Milton Keynes in 1982.

As a follower of Runrig for many years, I am familiar with much of Bruce's work, but was unaware of this until I stumbled across it a couple of Christmases ago. Now it is my go-to Christmas music. Absolutely fantastic. Like everyone, I was stunned by Bruce's untimely passing, but he lives on through his music. Just imagine the concerts he's involved in on the other side of the veil!

I am Irish and have long loved this band. ‘Hearts of Olden Glory’, is an unassumingly great, quietly blood-stirring song that I keep returning to, especially when I think of my beloved mother who passed almost ten years ago. All versions are great but, for me, this live one, with Donnie Munro’s uniquely memorable voice, that brief but spine-tingling guitar solo by Malcolm Jones and the emotional reactions from the audience, is the very best. Thank you, Runrig, for all of those wonderful times, tunes and performances, including the sensitive and greatly appreciated, ‘Eirnn’ (sa teanga Éireannach: ‘Éireann’) 🇮🇪🌹🏴

My dear darling husband is a Runrig fan, showed the videos and cassettes to me, after he rescued me from an extremely vicious and violent marriage, and he is Scots. I will love him forever.

I really can't decide wich version is "better": Donnie's, Bruce's or Brian's... They are all three amazing yet different...
