You should be able to run a 2nd battery in the tray (Lithium recommended) via a DC to DC converter, the alternator should have enough juice to run a 40A, I haven't had any issues with any vehicle running a 40A DC, not sure how the hybrid system works with how often the engine cuts in, but the DC to DC will only charge the aux battery while the alternator is running, make sure to have the correct size wiring run from engine bay to the tray to keep the cable cool, most installs I have seen undersize their cabling from alternator to DC, causing the wiring to get quite warm, you're right to have the oil / filter changed at 1,000 this is a good idea.

This is a common problem with PHEV, the engine is too small and can't cope with our long distances, this is why I'm waiting for the Ranger PHEV as it's using the 223Kw ecoboot petrol engine, it has a smaller battery but a powerful engine so it can still tow etc when the battery is flat

I have to say that I do not understand why GWM does not release the Hi-4t plugin in Australia? There are quite a few model have the Hi-4t system and the larger batteries as well, as Haval Menglong, shanhai, Tank 400。

Next time, tow in manual mode in 6th gear, with the higher revs the hybrid will charge and you’ll use less fuel just like riding a bike up hill on a easy gear

Vehicle that size to do what it is meant to do requires min 3.0L motor. Forget battery tech for touring and long hauls especially when towing.

Well yes and no... We Towed the entire way and there was never an issue... You just had to be smart about how you utilize the Hybrid system. As soon as you start off you need to be in Sport mode to recruit as much battery charge as you can so that on the long straights it is able to give you as much efficiency as possible... If you notice it depleting too quickly.. drop the speed back and maintain a lower load on the engine... It is something to get used too. The 2L T engine on its own may be maxed out pulling 2tonne at 100kmh .. but if you drive to the benefit of the hybrid system it's very adequate.

11,000 km return is crazy ! My longest roundtrip of 2,600km just pales in comparison. Even so, I’m absolutely with you on comfort levels being not a nice-if-you-have-it, but rather a must-have on long trips as it is not just for comfort, but just plain road safety. Anyone who’s driven a long distance in a noisy and cramped car with not much road insulation knows that you’ll quickly become fatigued, and just one slip can get you into a head-on against oncoming traffic.

You are absolutely right, it's not that it can't be done, I've personally done it Twice in older much much less comfortable cars and the fatigue was much worse. The Comfort in the Cannon Alpha made the Entire journey so much more pleasing that its honestly hard to imagine doing it in something else 😂

You can't change the physics. It has a tare weight in excess of 2500kgs and a GCM of approximately 5000kgs.Expecting a 2lt petrol to pick up the slack after the battery is exhausted was always going to be a problem when towing as mentioned in the review. As a result the fuel consumption goes through the roof. The other point is the exhaustion of driving an underpowered unit makes the drive longer than need be. Having to reduce speed makes it even more tiring and dangerous. Concentration drops off and micro naps start. I had an old Triton ute for a while and towing was exhausting. A more powerful and efficient vehicle is much easier and enjoyable to drive and cuts time behind the wheel significantly. It's much safer for you as the driver as well as other road users. All the comfort and gizmo's in the world can't change the basic principles.

Yeah I do agree somewhat, if you drive to the hybrid system is honestly not too bad.. the open road across Australia is notorious for it's wind and that plays a big part in driver fatigue and battery loss ..then again we are limited to a 100kmh speed limit when towing anyway .. I noticed it was much more manageable on the hybrid system between 90-100kmh.

Great review mate! We currently have all the parts you mentioned in development. Our bars are undergoing ADR testing in Australia to ensure compliance and top-notch quality. Additionally, we’re excited to announce that our rock sliders are slated for release in the first quarter of next year. We’re also finalizing a new battery mounting system designed specifically for the rear tub. It utilizes the factory mounting holes on the side for a secure and hassle-free installation and will be released very soon. Lastly, we’ve developed a plug-and-play tow bar harness that addresses the fridge control issue you mentioned when using the factory plug. This harness ensures a seamless setup and improved functionality for towing. We’re committed to delivering innovative and reliable solutions for our customers and look forward to bringing these products to market. Let us know if there’s anything else you’d like to know!

Awesome mate! We actually ran your Towing module to allow Cruise control! I personally wouldn't recommend using cruise control for long periods when towing as it will gradually deplete the batter faster than when you are using your foot. But the module is perfect for those straight sections when you want to give your foot a rest We have added a link to the product in the description!
