TotalEnergies is a total disaster. I'm surprised they are able to execute any project. They have a history of building projects that don't work for 2 years after commissioning.

Completely wrong, hydroxyl radicals aren't acid on the contrary are base ones. During manufacturing the acid sites are deposited by hydrolytic adsorption of aluminium onto the hydroxyl groups of the silica surface, after calcination again the acid sites are created also by diffusion and sintering as well. It's not acceptable from a reputed company to cheat or misinterpret such basic subject.
@quantumsushi5395 Жыл бұрын
You can see that happen in the video if you watch very carefully at 1:42, a water molecule comes in contact with Aluminium, and gives it a Hydrogen, while the oxygen binds to the lattice and has a Hydrogen protruding from it as well (two acid sites, one Alumina-Al-H, and one Alumina-O-H. Not sure where you're getting silica from.

Hydroxyls in an aqueous solution are basic because they accept hydrogen (H+) ions to form water. Hydroxyl groups on the gamma alumina surface, on the other hand, donate a proton (H+) temporarily during the catalytic reaction, and therefore they are classified as an (Bronsted) acid. These hydroxyl groups are created under normal operating conditions (after catalyst manufacture) by interaction with water in the vapor phase. The acidity of aluminosilicates, as you mention, can be due to both Lewis acid (electron acceptor) and Bronsted acid (proton donor) sites, which are created during catalyst production. However, the catalyst shown in the video is not an aluminosilicate.

Wholly wrong, you got to get a Chemistry Fundamentals text. Oxhydryls never ever will be acids species. They're good Lewis bases or Nucleophiles. Firstly where do you get the aqueous solution (LOL). It's a HCl feed with a water fraction of 0.00026. Morever, narration says it's alumina gel Al2O3 (LOL) . Why Axens technology requires the injection of such minuscule amount of water?
@CristobalGordillo3 ай бұрын
You also need Chemistry Fundamentals text. The clip mentions it's alumina gel (Al2O3) where oxhydryls are coming from? (LOL). Catalyst made as aluminiosilicates may have OH radical in it's structure (I.e. octahedral) but no alumina gelatinous.

Thank you so much. This explains perfectly the process, since I work on on the reformer units. But.. Why is platinum used, what is the main reason of the use of this metal. Thx
@quantumsushi5395 Жыл бұрын
"Platinum’s success has long been attributed to its “Goldilocks” binding energy. Ideal catalysts hold on to reacting molecules neither too loosely nor too tightly, but somewhere in the middle. Bind the molecules too loosely and it’s difficult to get a reaction started. Bind them too tightly and molecules stick to the catalyst’s surface, making a reaction difficult to complete. The binding energy of hydrogen on platinum just happens to perfectly balance the two parts of the water-splitting reaction - and so most scientists have believed it’s that attribute that makes platinum so good. " In a sense, the way I see it the platinum acts as a temporary "wait don't go anywhere" for more real reactions to take place. It is extremely resistant to corrosion and is one of the least reactive metals. So it's just there to encourage chaos.

Nice technology to upgrade the low-value residue. But, I saw that the number of operating Flexi units is very few. Is the CAPEX of the unit contributing to the limited number of the existing units?
