My symptoms before being diagnosed with celiac were chest discomfort, headaches and a weird sensation in my upper gut/lower chest. Just diagnosed in July of this year.

I am glad you were able to get diagnosed. How long did it take for you? I have heard it can take people several years to get diagnosed, luckily for me my DR was well aware (even though I was not) Thank you for being here and sharing!

@lifewithamy2024 Once I went in and they scheduled endoscopy it was maybe 2 months. Never even thought of celiac...

My fave salmon recipe I think is from Skinnytaste. Light mayo, parmesan cheese and fresh basil mixed together and spread on top of salmon, sprinkle with a little more parmesan, than bake or air fry. So good and leftovers are great in a salad.

Have you ever made tzatzki with great yogurt? That would be great on your greek now. Equal parts greek yogurt and finely chopped cucumber, some garlic, some lemon pepper...really good and 0 points. Also, greek yogurt with lime juice and pickled jalapeños good on Mexican food. Thanka for all ideas!

Had 1st colonoscopy a couple weeks ago. Prep was brutal. One benign polyp so won't have to undergo that again for 10 years. Watched my mom deal with my grandma with dementia for many years. Such an awful disease.

That is wonderful news on the polyp🙏 dementia is really really hard to deal with and definitely plays a mental toll on all involved.

Just found your channel. I am also on WW and was diagnosed with celiac disease in July. It has been quite a learning curve eating gluten-free while on WW. Thought i would never eat a cauliflower crust pizza, but I do like Trader Joes. Like to buy the cheese one and add peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc. Thanks for the meal ideas!

So glad you found me! I have to try to Trader Joe's, I don't really have one by me but I have been thinking of stopping by one soon for the fall goodies. I will have to check out the pizza. Thanks for the rec!

Gluten is not only found in just wheat barley and rye, it is also found in all other grains as well. Yes... corn, rice, and oats have gluten too.
@lifewithamy202412 күн бұрын
You do have to be extra careful when these things are processed such as Uncle bens rice.
@DanteLikesRock12 күн бұрын
@@lifewithamy2024 processed or non-processed, they still have gluten. even the "gluten free" foods you see in the stores. There are no gluten free grains.
@lifewithamy202412 күн бұрын
Naturally they do not, but can come in contact with gluten and or processed with gluten
@DanteLikesRock12 күн бұрын
@@lifewithamy2024 No, they do. As I said, ALL grains NATURALLY contain gluten. That means rice, corn and oats ALL have gluten. The "gluten free" foods you see in the stores are all made from grains like rice and corn. I'm a celiac too and have researched this topic in depth.

Getting old isn’t fun. My friend got Alzheimer’s before she was 60. It took her kids a year to find a place that’s over a hour away. She is still alive after 10 years in there but is withering away. It’s so sad. The hospital should have helped you find a place if she couldn’t come home. Chemo brain takes a while to get over so I hope you see improvement in your dad soon. Thinking of you and hoping it gets better.

I don't know if I can tell you which website as some channels don't allow it, but one off the major Celiac disease sites referred to a study suggesting that the lack of absorption of carnitine may contribute to people with Celiac Disease being overweight. The study was presented at Digestive Disease Week in May of this year. Carnitine is an amino acid that helps convert fat into energy. It will be interesting to follow this new research. Wouldn't it be nice if a simple carnitine supplement would help us lose weight?

Hang in there. I know it’s really trying to care for aging parents. My dad has stomach cancer and my mom has Alzheimer’s. My dad was going through really aggressive chemo, he also did not eat well. He liked lemon flavored things and mashed potatoes. We tried to find a food he would eat no matter if it was healthy. Ice cream and shakes were also a go to. Social workers can help with resources. We also set both my parents up with palliative care. The doctor can come to the house and they can help make him more comfortable. I’m in your same boat. It’s exhausting mentally and physically. I hope you know you are doing a great job and they are very lucky to have a daughter like you. Stay strong!

My back was hurting so my dr did a blood test. Came back high enzymes in my liver. Dr did a liver blood test and came back positive for celiac. Going for my endoscopy end of the month. Looking back, i was tired, light stools, vomiting 2-3 days a week, etc. Started eating gf and felt better but like you mentioned, dr wanted me to continue gluten until the endoscopy. Just fyi about mcdonald's, at least here, the fries only go in a dedicated fryer just for fries so i eat those. Also, the taco bell thing is strange because i buy the taco bell hard shells and they say gf on the box. Im pretty much gf but i still eat some gluten everyday until the test. Thank you for the info.

Hi, I would say the best thing would to ask your family practitioner for recommendations for a reputable gastroenterologist and maybe have them perform the initial blood work for you. Good luck!
