I like the idea of a creature infested with other creatures that burst out when it dies, so I'll havt to do that to my 9lv group next session but with something that will be a danger to them...🤔👍🏻 Have to look for your wearrat EPS now to see how it went.

No, you cannot have expertise unless a feature says it explicitly gives you expertise. If you get proficiency in the same skill from say a background or a feature, then you can pick another skill instead. Otherwise, nothing happens. Also, you don't roll your hit dice on the first level. First level is always hit point max (aka hit dice + con mod) and from level 2 and onwards, you roll. So you should have 8 hp.

I always was interested in adding, but I call survival systems. Something like upkeep for equipment or needing to get new equipment over time. However, during my time of playing fifth edition, there are so many other systems going on especially on the player character sheets it just bogged down the game. Now that I play less convoluted systems I have a much easier time adding systems to game. Games like shadow dark that really lives off of survival. D&D is about doing heavy damage and casting cool spells, not about surviving the wilderness and having to stop at a town to buy a common sword. Meanwhile, shadow dark characters are always making sure they have a back up weapon because it’s not uncommon to lose the sword and when you’re in a dark dungeon, sometimes you can’t find it.

i allow PCs to use the classes/subclasses from 2014 or 2024 rules, following the wotc intent for compatibility: PCs can mix options, but if a PC uses anything from 2024, they must use the 2024 version for anything that exists in both. As a DM, i'll use the 2014 rules for conditions until there's a non-ugly DM screen for 2024.

Ah, ok, thank you! I was overthinking it. I just wonder how to deal with if the players go somewhere and the thing isn't there, then they do a card reading that puts it where they've already been and don't have a reason to go back... but I guess the little card reading text would tip them off.. and they would just be left wondering why the item wasn't there last time they were there.

@@Noob_DnD_Dad that is a fair concern. The good news is there’s only a couple of places they would reasonably go to that’s in the card reading. In that situation though you could just keep it as it was or simply redo it if they have already been there

It's great, but I totally agree, it's tough. It's a shame there's not more child friendly content. I was doing Minecraft and Pokémon DnD as well but it's actually easier just sticking with natural DnD and tailoring it for kids. The change to species was made to more accurately represent what the difference between an elf, an orc and a dwarf for example. They're not just weird-looking humans, they are entirely different species. Interbreeding is still a thing discussed in the rules, something you'd know if you actually read the book. Basically, since it'd be a near impossible task to create the thousands, maybe even millions, of different combinations of species they're instead just saying "if your parents were of different species you may take whatever cosmetic traits you want from both of them but mechanically you'll have to choose one of them." It's a way for them to broaden what species can interbreed, not restrict it.

WotC and Hasbro have openly stated that they "HATE WHITE PEOPLE" and "CAN'T WAIT TO GET ALL WHITE MALES OUT OF GAMING." why are you giving them your money? Why can't you look at the game math and see that its idiotic? why can't you look at a game mechanic like "Advantage" and understand that that mechanic is in their game because it is utterly pointless to play without "advantage" helping you to cheat? They hate you. PERIOD. They think you are STUPID, and every red cent you give them prooves them right. Play anything you want, but DO NOT PLAY DUMMIES AND DIPSHITS!
