I think sword training past and present was good exercise and training to use their period sidearm. But the sword was just a tool of many like a pole, ax, or hammer. Most think a katana was a end all weapon which it wasn’t. Squaring up for a duel on opposite sides of a hill was to needlessly die and for what? Sword use today will get one blown away.

Isn't this cultural appropriation? 🤔
@BrazenLunatic
@BrazenLunatic 3 жыл бұрын
If this is cultural appropriation, the usage of fireworks and gunpowder should uave just stayed in China since its something that originated there and found first Military use there in. This is Iaido, an actual way of combat that was modified and modernized due to the change of weapon usage and the fact that swords became irrelevant in the field of battle. The study of this is no different to painting, learning jiu-jutsu, judo or karate, or learning parkour which originated in france. That being said, would it really be cultural appropriation to learn about the facets of a culture of another country?

Bonjour. ?

@lesirephilippe8041
@lesirephilippe8041 2 жыл бұрын

I'm pretty sure it's some version of Sakura Sakura, which is one of the most well known traditional japanese song out there and you hear it all over the place. Not sure which specific rendition of it, though.

Sinon, bel effet d'ensemble.

Lol this is actually very true. Most instructors won't even let you in the dojo unless you have the proper demeanor of respect, focus and concentration. You have to have "the face" before you even start learning.

Hey, I know some of these guys. I know some people are talking about pushing and pulling their swords, but some of them are still learning and developing. Please be nice in comments. Also, hello from Serbia! See you on EIC.

Greetings, the aspect of pushing and pulling would vary from school to school and teacher to teacher. My instructor encourages us to push and pull to draw the ken/iaito. I can't understand how people comment saying you shouldn't do this or that not taking into account, their teacher is not their instructor and may have a different understanding of how iaito is practiced. This rigid conformance of practicing movement from hundreds of years ago is useful for learning, BUT at the same time you have to allow for variations.
