am sorry, it seems you are not native, neither am I. happen to find your video about this idiom, and in this video you're stressing on the quickness of releasing something painfull. well, thats not how I find native speakers explaining its meaning, it is more about removing the fear and worry over something that might happen if you do it, like in your example: you have to break up with her do it now, just ripp of the band aid, clearly in the context, the man affraid of making that decision which will hurt her, but the fear and worry he has over the decision his friend gives, breaking up with her.. correct me if am wrong
