Nice interview! It's refreshing to hear someone in charge talking about making it legal to build starter homes and multifamily homes again. The structures with the most character in our cities are the small, mixed-use brick buildings from pre-WW2 that aren't allowed to get built anymore. These traditional, walkable little towns are what everybody loves but with setbacks, parking minimums, minimum lot sizes, FAR requirements, two staircase requirements, we've outlawed them. Young people want them back because they're inexpensive and great places to live. I am less hopeful that Trump will help. Trump campaigned on protecting single family suburbs from "overdevelopment". This speaks to the NIMBYs because the "overdevelopment" he's talking about are ADUs, duplexes, and quadplexes. Harris definitely had more YIMBY policies such as making it easier to build millions of homes. Trump also wants to deport a large percentage of home builders and put tariffs on Canadian lumber. But we're stuck with who we got, so let's make the most of it I guess.
