Hi I have just seen your video and it’s quite informative.. I’m new to this subject and industry but I want to learn… can you confirm MRF350 HD 3B is 4:1 reduction as the one described in your video. Also can this gearbox fit on MAN D2876 LOH01 engine?

I have two T6.354M engines with the turbos removed and was told the injectors are rated for a turbo, if you remove the turbos the injectors will diesel wash the cylinders and cause excessive blow-by. Is this true, has anyone experience with this?
@rebuildingomala Жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, I actually don't know if that happens. The current engine I rebuilt did not came with a turbo, I only placed an exhaust manifold for a turbo version on it.

A fun ride through so much history. I really enjoyed seeing all of the old River freighters still in use. It was 48 years ago that I visited Copenhagen. I fell head over heels in love with the canal freighters that had been turned into beautiful floating homes. I really enjoy seeing how people are repurposing still very serviceable items, just as you’re doing with Omala. Jop you’ve got the skills of a wizard. You work in such high tech, but are also able to resurrect the old. It’s pure brilliance! And it’s so wonderful that you’re exposing your young apprentice to the fun and rewarding side of keeping history alive. Keep it up! Thanks so much for along for the ride😎

A saying that my grandfather used to say whenever I, as a young boy, would say “I can’t and then whatever, was “Can’t never did nothing for himself”. I still to this day say the same thing to my grand children, as I did to their parents.

Ah Wayne, that's so nice of you to say. Everything has a story, even the most ordinary of things, including this little boat. Many people stopped and asked about her when she was on land, she turned into a real celebrity, so many pictures being taken, it was almost overwhelming! With a handful of people being convinced she was an actual old steamboat :) I had to inform them about the reality though.

What a wonderful transformation! The ultrasound looks pretty darn good, very few rust through points. A little welding here and there, no problem. On the stern, are those ring type anodes on each side? And what’s the purpose of them being a ring? Are they around seawater inlets? I just think this is such a grand project! I swear, I would be all over this, just doing whatever I could. I know! Get the drive train up and churning, then motor on over to the Texas Gulf Coast! You can pick me and all my saws up from there! I’ll fit out the interior of Omaha with the finest of interior cabinetry, seating, railing, passage and cabin doors, you name it, I would readily sign on to such a grand adventure! You do all your science magic, and I’ll make the most beautiful of louvered doors and cabinet doors you’ve ever seen! Can you tell I need a project!? Retirement doesn’t suit me well! Anyway, if dreams came true. In the meantime, you’re doing such a through job on the refit! I know you and your beautiful family have many many wonderful journeys awaiting you all! Congratulations on such fine work and perseverance! Your friend.

Ah Bart, thanks for the nice message! Yes I was surprised too, I did ultrasonic measurements 5 years ago before her purchase, but this was very rushed, I was not even allowed to paint her back then. So she has done quite well until now. Those ring anodes are concentric with the seacocks, for letting salt water in for engine coolant. Omala only had once seacock until recently, for cooling her main engine, this was on the starboard side. I made another one the port side for the generator. Funny enough the starboard side had a copper mesh filter on it, which in my reasoning is a terrible idea on a steel boat. Luckily the local painter could use the copper one as a mold and poured two new ones in epoxy, I will sent you some pictures on messenger :) The pressure washer they used was around 6000psi I think, they spent a good 4 hours blasting her hull. Sand blasting is not allowed in the summer there. And well, if you are ever bored, it would be amazing to have even the smallest's of cabinet door made by you, I gladly pay for shipping. I really like the idea that all of her parts have a good story, let me know if you want to be part of that! Besides the German vessel spotting book, that I will have laying in my wheelhouse eventually. Enjoy your day Bart, and thank you for keeping me motivated.
