Hi there. . . Another Frame 'use' over and above to what the "Hopkins Method" does ! (1900's ?) Hopkins found if a 'Frame of x1 Day Larva (in a Frame) placed in a 'Holding Shim' and this was "added" Flat above the Bees, they would "Draw down Queen Cells" ! This was done before Grafting became the preferred method. Interesting ! Your Frame holder reminded me of the above Setup. . .😉 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2024 (!) 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Ps. Which Video has your 'DIY' Bee 'Tonic' / like Hive Alive, Bee Boost etc. . . Was watching your Queen Rearing Series : couldnt find the final 'Fourth Episode.' (?) Think a Video mention DIY Pollen Patties and showed them being made. But that Boost Feed Soloution (??) Hope you can advise. Saying Hello from a Cold Icey Scotland ! 🏴 On New Years Eve ! Hogmanay as we call it here (31st Dec !) 🥳

That hive is going to be a monster, how much honey did you get from it"? I use the vino farm frames and other than you cant spin them I love em, I, similar to you am homogenizing all my gear to these longer frames. Hope you had a great year

There's a say here in Croatia.. "We make honey on honey"...( med se pravi na medu). But I guess they don't believe in that over there.. they make it all on sugar. And than they wonder why they always have problems.. if you treat them like chickens you'll have chickens. It's not natural for bees to have something out of the comb or frames on top. It just makes them work trying to fix the spill or remove the problem. People don't understand that. I call it 'chickenization'.. tried to explain it many times but nobody wants to listen. They just want to feed all the time and watch slabs of brood (varroa) even in winter. That hive of yours is fantastic !
@silverlakehoney2 ай бұрын
I am all about feeding and helping bees if they are low on stores. But I am completely against treating all the hives the same. Another thing you are introducing moisture this time of the year with all the sugar syrup and right now is that sugar is very expensive. Why spend extra money if you don't need to. Bees know best, but if you do everything on time and let them prepare themselves, there is nothing to worry about and no need for extra work and expenses for "insurance." Sometimes, I just don't get it
@Mears4Liberty2 ай бұрын
Agreed. Earlier in the year, I had to pull a few deep frames of capped honey from one of my hives because it was becoming honey bound. I extracted the honey and returned the frames of empty comb back into the hive. Rather than use that honey for myself, I stored it and then used it to feed my hives a few weeks ago for winter stores preparation. I completely stopped using sugar feeding 2 years ago.
@researcherAmateur2 ай бұрын
@@Mears4Liberty there can always be a bad year, drought in my parts... but as he said you feed on time.. 1/1 to let them work on that syrup and ad to it , transform it into real bee food. There's no reason for it to be an emergency food put now with all the moisture and that will make them produce more brood of short living bees. There is time to do everything... l think that people just don't understand how bees work..
@silverlakehoney2 ай бұрын
It is always easy to remove few frames and add empty drawn comb if there is a fall flow. You can use that honey later to feed bees or add to your splits no problem
@tywilson642 ай бұрын
Do you use oxillic acid pre winter?
@silverlakehoney2 ай бұрын
Yes I do usually mid to late November whenever bees are completely broodless.
@silverlakehoney2 ай бұрын
Winter is coming. reduce the entrances if you haven't already. If your reducer is made of wood, keep in mind, a determined mouse can chew the small hole open overnight. Add tin sheeting over the wood, or even hardware cloth to prevent it (cutting a hole in the screen as large as the hole in the reducer.) Add your emergency food sources if you use them: candy boards, winter patties, mountain camp feed, etc. Do not feed sugar syrup in cold weather as the bees cannot get rid of extra moisture and can lead to dysentery. Tip hives forward with a shim so water and snow can run outward. When providing wind-breaks, do not shade the hive. Sunlight is your friend and wind is the enemy. Now is the time to wrap if you need too with tar paper or other dark heat-absorbing materials. They will absorb heat during the day, and make the nights a little more tolerable.

Good catch Russell. I believe these were old supercedure cells. This video and last three videos were filmed first week of August. Since then I checked all the hives for laying queen and Brood. Those videos are coming soon. I did find a few queenless hives that I combined. I have made worse grunts off camera with these deep supers 😄

@@silverlakehoney no one came . The hive died out . They swarmed into a tree and stayed there
@MarcellaAshton-p2g4 ай бұрын
WARNING: I made the mason jar feeder with the T shirt skirt yesterday . I used an old t shirt I used for sleeping in. Later in the afternoon every time I walked outside I was followed by bees which has never happened before . I thought I had sugar water residue on my hands or hair. I showered and changed. The feed continued to follow me. They kept coming in the house . I put the sugar away and cleaned all the counters . This morning they were following me around again outside and kept coming in the house and buzzing around the windows if I stood near an open screen. I wondered if they had picked up my pheromones from my old shirt . So I threw the shirt I had slept in outside in my patio . Scout bees have been trying to feed off that dry t shirt on a chair all day. They are hovering at my back patio door and try come in the house as soon as I get close to the door. I have created a nightmare of bee attraction by using a T shirt o had recently worn!! Word of advise - use a new t shirt or one no one in your household as worn. I did not realize how much they would imprint on the scent in the feeder shirt.
