How do like this camera for low light?

I'm impressed with the low light. It is the first action camera I'd consider about on par with my iPhone 14. It falls behind the DJI Pocket 3, but that's about sensor size. I usually shoot low light in the standard 4k setting. If it gets really dark I do use the low light mode, but I find it has an over processed look to my eye. I have noticed some jitter on a few of my low light videos. I'm exploring that at the moment. I think it's due to the Digital Image Stabilization at night. I've heard on YT that by doubling the shutter speed I can reduce or eliminate jitter, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm hoping to release a low light video in the next week. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you for your video. Obviously everyone has their various opinions and preferences when it comes to cameras, but I've tested many cameras throughout the years (I own a video production business), and I really have found that DJI has done an exceptional job with many of their products including the action cameras. GoPro seems to almost be another "name" for action cameras like "Google" is for searching for something online. But there's some serious competition going on between GoPro and DJI. After being really pleased with my drone footage with the various drones that I have had, I was enthusiastic about trying their action cameras. I've had the first version and now recently upgraded to the 5 pro. I love both of these cameras. But, I think it's important to keep in mind that these are not $8,000 cameras so they're not going to do a lot of things that really expensive professional cameras could do - especially in low light. But, they are absolutely amazing cameras for the price and I highly recommend them. I often use the OSMO Action for b-roll footage that requires cameras that can get wet, be out in the snow, or sometimes when just need a small camera that's not so intimidating to people around me when I'm recording some b-roll footage. Keep up the great work! Vlogs seem to do best when people stick right to the point of what they're trying to convey. 👍

It's an "ok" action camera. However, it's a horrible vlogging camera. Reason why it's sold as an action camera and they have a different line for vlogging.

S5II is a video beast, and its got IBIS, but its a heavy camera, the R8 is much lighter but the lenses are extremely expensive unless you adapt EF lenses but the same can be said for S5II with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. The Nikon is extremely photographic oriented.

I would honestly take a Z6 instead. They are available for under 1000$ used, you can also use legacy Nikon glass with them to save on lenses, but you also can benefit from third party Z mount lenses, because Nikon is not as blatantly anti consumer as Canon with their close off lens mount, you still get great 4K, really good autofocus, a great, sturdy body woth awesome ergonomics and all the dials and buttons you meed. You will need an external monitor if you are filming yourself, but at the current prices that is a tradeoff I am willing to take for getting an open lens mount.

Canon makes great cameras!!. But the lenses are the real issue for a noticeable number of people. The 3rd party lens issue is catching up with them. I was watching a Matt Irwin video about Nikon cameras this week and in Japan, only 1 Canon was mentioned in a list of the top 20 cameras sold in Japan today. I myself own a Canon and in comparison to Nikon today... it's like a dying brand. Canon don't make, and don't allow mid price fast RF lenses. Sigma offers these affordably to everyone else. So speaking as a Canon owner... make sure you can get and afford the lenses you need before buying the camera for the work you want to do. For a sizeable number of people (not all) this is where Canon ownership sucks... no affordable fast autofocus RF alternatives. Such a shame... Canon cameras do indeed have all the virtues you mentioned... 😢

Will take A7IV overthis just because lens selection , it ended up cheaper than canon r8 because sony have a lot of cheap lens selection

Great review. This or Canon r6Mii should have been my next Canon, but it did not offer enough of an upgrade to make it worth my while. I ended up buying the r7 for IBIS and better Dynamic Range. I still have my Canon r6, but I use my R7 for video as it gets noticeably more details in the highlights. The R6 is still my go to Photo Camera....for now :) I Also think Sony beat canon in the video department right now. But there are new cameras to be announced any day now.

I considered the R7. I sometimes shoot wildlife photography so IBIS and the crop would come in handy for that. I also like the video from the R7 that I've seen online. Sounds like you made a solid choice. I think you are right about Sony. They've been crushing it on the video side. Thanks for the comment.

the ibis wobble is mostly fixed. the enhanced stabilization you used on the r8, is close to the ibis plus basic On digital stabilization on an ibis camera. the enhanced is still slightly better but at a severe crop. plus the ibis camera also has enhanced. r8 is a great camera for the specs.

I'll look into the downloading thing. Connecting my dji mic 1.0 receiver to the usb-c port on the pocket 3 works well. I can try a lav mic directly into the unit. Thank you for your comment.

@@jimmackayvlog Certainly; the notion that 24 frames give a more cinematic smoothness came from mechanical cameras, modern camera, especially DJI, gives a smooth picture in motion only at 60 frames per second; certainly you can get some great depth and beauty shooting 24 frames but only on still subjects, in case you have to move use 60 frames per second. you can check it yourself on any test; I tested it and the results confirm my opinion in 60 frames per second give a smoother picture for moving subjects shooted by OP3.

@@exclamoit's not about the fps but the shutter speed and it' s the same with others cameras too. If you shoot at 30 fps with a 1/60 sec. Shutter speed, you'll have a way smoother footage. (but you need nd filters in this case.)

Thanks for being honest. I am no longer listening to all the influencers to sell their integrity for the money they get paid. Yes it is a great camera but the sound is not better then a ten year old go pro. We recorded an event where we had to be discreet with the pocket 3, using the inner mic, and now we have to pay for a sound guy to fix the sound. I was in the second row at the event. Really inferior sound.

Thank you for your comment. I hope to be fair to both DJI and viewers of my videos. I bought the camera because it looked interesting and checked a lot of boxes for me. I'm sorry to hear about your issue with internal sound. I find the onboard mics are so sensitive to vibrations. I either use an external audio recorder or I connect the DJI mic system.

You gained a new subscriber. I have the iPhone 15 Pro with the Insta360 Flow with the Rode Pro mic. While I love the portability of my system, I don't like walking in crowded spaces with my setup. My current setup is great for my main type of content, property tours for my real estate channel. I'd like to incorporate more blogging-style content that's run-and-gun, which this setup would assist with because I can pair it with the DJI Mic 2. I'm just not sure if I'd get my $800 investment back by making more content, which is the goal. Another reason I like my iPhone setup is that I have the ability to share content from my phone to social platforms or upload to my editor on the go. The workflow of waiting to use my videos until I get back to the office is less than ideal.

I find the Pocket 3 to be a very compact solution. I do my editing on a laptop, but it would be an interesting experiment to try transferring the files to my phone for processing and upload.

your a knob it kills your crapple phone in every way its not an action cam so treat it as such Its video qualaty is as good as my full frame camera and better in some cases and its got a gimble. Its a brilleant cam Go get yourself a action cam for what your scicking about.CHEERS

My brother has the Pocket 2 from release date and to this day it still has a long battery life. Almost as good as stock. We may not need to worry abt it till the pocket 4 😂

Anyone in the comment section have an idea here? You could check if you have the most up to date version of the Mimo app and the latest firmware on the osmo pocket 3. When I have a few minutes, I'll try live streaming on mine to see if I can get it to work. Also, you can check out this support article from DJI. i have same, though i did not use much due other work, it perfect one for me, except one minus is no IP rating, so we can not use in rain, such a expensive one, should have IP68 - thank you - Rams

Yes, and that is a key drawback. There are a lot of times I want to get out in the elements to film, but I'll likely be reaching for a different camera in those circumstances. It's not worth the risk. Thank you for your comment.

Hey Jim, new sub here. Thanks a bunch for this video. I've scoured the web for DAYS searching for relatable reviews on the Dji Pocket 3. This by FAR the best for me. My wife and I are expecting our first child in June, and wanted to document our journey through first time parenthood. We've been using our Iphone 15 camera's (with the Black Magic app), but once the baby arrives, I'm SURE having the auto tracking gimble paired with the pocket 3's vid quality, things will be so much better!👍🏽 Apologies for the long comment, but we TRULY appreciate it! @@jimmackayvlogi think a pocket cam as Canon g5x is better for wecations, moore zoom, similar video quality, mutch better photos, not so fragile. Osmo P is good, but limited to its wide angle. I use osmo p for real estate and b cam for conserts, where i find this camera useful😊

I haven't completely changed my mind from the previous video. This is a video about my "likes" after two months of use. I am working on another video discussing my "dislikes" in that same period. However, I am more comfortable with my purchase. I am able to use this instead of my Iphone in most circumstances. Appreciate the comment.

@@eduvidiojust my opinion, but you have to have a reason to use it. I bought mine in November and it’s sat in my cupboard. Tried to sell it at a $200 loss, no interest at all. For reference, I bought it to do real estate tour videos, but the bobbing up and down and the focus issue (continuous mode refocuses on things you walk past, ruining the footage, and single focus can only focus on the foreground OR the background) made it unfit for my usage.
