No I don't. The guide camera isn't touched, only the main imaging camera is rotated. The guide camera is fixed to the guide scope on the top of the main scope, and does not get rotated or moved.

first time viewer. I would go for an autofocuser first. Couldn't see one on your scope. Would love to live where you are.
@AlvieraLiving8 ай бұрын
Yes I don't have an autofocuses, but to be honest I have found the focusing to be relatively straight forward. I have it dialed in and hardly need to adjust it. I check each night with a bahtinov mask, and it hardly ever needs adjusting. Possibly when switching to a filter wheel an autofocuses may be useful as filters change the focus. On saying that, my UV IR filter and dual band pass filter from SVBony require not change in focus between them. Which is useful, as I swap in the UV/IR filter to get aligned and plate solve, then switch in the dual band filter afterwards. I find plate solving with the dual pass filter almost impossible due to it filtering out so much of the star light. Maybe a longer exposure would work but that wastes time. I personally would find a field rotator more useful as I can then lave it running overnight and frame each object as I want, rather than compromising with a single framing for all objects.

For rotation you can select "manual rotator" under gear > rotator and then use the litte triangle next to slew and center to select "slew center and rotate". This will give you a window with how many degrees and in what direction you need to rotate the camera. You then can take test pictures from that window to confirm the rotation. It's not a huge change but maybe you'll find it useful :)
@AlvieraLiving10 ай бұрын
Awesome thanks, I'll try that out! I really would like an automatic rotator, I think they are quite useful. Especially if shooting multiple targets in a night as I often do, no need to wake up and rotate.

I just got started with astrophotography last year, and I spent most of my budget on the mount, so I cheaped out on the telescope ~£200). I figured that I could learn a lot from using a crappy scope until I saved up for a better one. My bank balance finally recovered recently and so I have an SV550 on order now, looks like it's the same model as yours (80mm?), it should be here in a few days so I'm looking forward to checking it out! I assume you weren't using a narrowband filter for these images? I picked up the SV220 a few months ago for nebulae (because my stars were huge due to my crappy scope), and it makes a huge difference. I'd highly recommend one if you don't have one yet. It really gets rid of all sorts of other light pollution and leaves you with the nebulae and some tiny stars. Those are some great shots you got here though, the two huge stars actually improve the image and give it some depth..
@AlvieraLiving11 ай бұрын
Yes that's the same scope, the SVBony 80mm f6 480mm focal length triplet refractor. No narrowband filter as I'm using a one shot color camera. I did recently obtain the UV/IR cut filter to help with star bloat, recent experiments with this seem to indicate it has helped. I did also get a dual band filter for one shot color camera which has made a dramatic difference and improvement. Please checkout my images and progress in the hob at my blog nicksastrophotography.wordpress.com

@AlvieraLiving11 ай бұрын
Yes it is a bit on the expensive side, but keep in mind the costs involved with launching the satellites. Also, here in the Philippines it's much lower cost than elsewhere. It's not for everyone, and I wouldn't use it as my permanent connection given I have fiber optic lines with good speed already. But for traveling to provinces it will be useful.

Hi, i dont know if you already figured it out but what you captured are reflections from lights. So you probably had a bright light on while you took the pictures. I have platesolved the end Image you had and you sadly did not hit the California nebula. You were aimed a little above the plejades. If you need help with your equiptment let me know ;)
@AlvieraLiving11 ай бұрын
Hey! Yes I use nova.astrometry.net and found I was a little off. I'm super new to all this, but I managed to figure out the past few nights using plate solving in NINA and the framing assistant to get onto target properly. As for the artifact, turns out it's condensation/ice on the camera from cooling too quickly in the warm humid air here. When I cool in stages, from 20 to 10, then 10 to 50, then 5 to 0 degrees it seems to avoid this issue, and take 10 minutes for each stage of cooling. I was able to get a pretty decent image (for a beginner!) of M51a whirlpool galaxy two nights ago, uploaded here :- nicksastrophotography.wordpress.com
