Hey there. Were these servos a direct drop in fit?
@frankflyrc8 күн бұрын
The silicone sleeve/wire protector that comes out of the servo needs to be cut and removed with an x-acto knife. Once removed, the servos are a drop in fit. One of them also needs to be reversed.

Where do you get the carbon upgrade parts
@frankflyrcАй бұрын
Greetings wades5thscaleforlife872! There are no carbon upgrade parts installed on this model. If you're referring to the carbon reinforcements done on the F-14, I ordered 2 sheets (0.5mm) and glued them together so they actually measured out to around .75mm. Let me know if that helps, or if you're referring to something completely different.

I have not flown mine yet. How hard is it to fly and land. Is it harder then your F-4
@frankflyrcАй бұрын
This model's flies awesome! Very stable, as long as the CG isn't too far aft. The factory mark was used and it tracks well in the air. Keep in mind, I fly this manual and the on-board gyro is disabled and don't use any other stabilizer. But this one's been giving me fits trying to land. It tends to bounce at touchdown for me, resulting in nose overs, or ground loops. I've only had one decent landing with this one. On the other hand, the F-4 feels harder to fly, but I don't seem to have a problem landing it. I'm actually still working on trying to figure out where to place the CG in this model. The factory marking for this one is too far aft for my comfort. But the last trip out to the field felt too nose-heavy for me after I moved the CG close to 20mm forward. So yeah, still trying to figure this one out. IMHO, neither one of these models are suited for new/beginner EDF flyers. Hope this helps and the best of luck on your maiden! Just let me know if you have any questions about this F-14, or F-4.

You have any content about set safe mode for landing gear? Like when throttle is Disarmed, you cant retract the gears
@frankflyrcАй бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't really do 'content' videos. They're more like my RC flight diary videos, if you will. I put what I use in the Description field of the videos. They're mainly hardware related, and cover any modifications I've made to the models I have, or have had. I use the Radiomaster TX16s radio, and was paired with an FRSky RX6R receiver for this model. There was no stabilizer/gyro used and was flown completely manual at, 100% High rates -> 80% Mid rates -> 60% Low rates. Expo at High rates was at 30% -> Mid rate Expo was at 20% and Low rate Expo at 10%. Those percentages were used across all control surfaces. Hope this helps if you have this model.

I just picked this plane up used from a guy and he said it flew fine but very tame and underpowered for a 3D plane. I just maidened it and thought the same thing and immediately thought it would open up on 6S. For instance, I can't do infinite climbs as it stalls after a few seconds going straight up and I see you fly mostly pattern with a roll here and there so maybe you haven't really pushed it beyond just a pattern flyer, but have you tried 6S at all?
@frankflyrc2 ай бұрын
Nah, just 4S. It's been sold to a fellow club member. It felt more like a 'trainer/aerobatic' plane. But I think it mostly has to do with the smaller motor/esc combo, plus the more 'scale like' 3 blade prop setup. I have the E-flite Extra 300, and it's a very similar platform, but has more power to play with since it comes stock with a higher powered motor and plus a 2 blade prop.
@choekstr2 ай бұрын
@@frankflyrc yeah, same here. Just flew my extra 300 today and it's a completely different plane and crazy fun and so much power and tumbling comparatively. Thanks for the validation.

Nice flying and with the new setup the plane seems to have unlimited vertical. What prop are you using with the 4S? and does the stock motor support 4S?
@frankflyrc3 ай бұрын
Thank you much! The extra power allows this model to cruise around at around 40 - 50% throttle and pretty much has unlimited vertical. The motor and prop are stock. I think the stock esc can handle 4S, but I changed it out just for a little extra peace of mind.

@@frankflyrc I bought the 1700mm and my ESC (stock 45A FMS predator) caught fire after a totally normal flight. It did happen while the plane was upside down, but I also inverted it in the air. @@misaelramos83 That sucks your ESC caught fire! The ZTW ESC 45A ESC I replaced the stock 40A one with is only slightly larger. The cowl and motor needed to be removed to access the ESC to change it out. Hopefully your upgraded ESC will work without issue.

Hi Frank! I've been watching all your videos because I just picked up one of these used and I'm afraid to maiden until I can get the CG right... Any chance you can give me an idea on where to put a 3200 to get this thing to fly right? The sticker in the compartment wants it just in front of the servos, but it could be pushed all the way into the nose as well...? Did you end up having to add any weight? Hoping you can remember after 5 years!😂
@frankflyrc3 ай бұрын
Greetings EastCoastLtd! I believe the CG was placed a little further forward than factory. I'm pretty certain I was using Admiral 4000 batteries. The 3200 you have is probably a good deal lighter, and would need to be placed further forward. I don't remember adding additional weight. I would start with the CG a little more forward, and move it back if you feel it's too nose-heavy. Best of luck on your maiden, and many happy landings to follow!

@frankflyrc3 ай бұрын
Haha! Can't disagree! Gears are on a pretty narrow track! My timer's set to 4:45. I also don't do extended times of max throttle on the regular. I generally come down around 3.7 - 3.75 volts per cell.

What was your previous set up in the f-22? Do you notice more thrust with the new motor and fan?
@frankflyrc3 ай бұрын
The original motor was the 9-blade one this model was sold with. There is a noticeable increase in thrust with the newer 12-blade motor, especially when going vertical. But I can't tell any difference in top speed. Granted, I don't do many sustained max throttle runs.

Hey bud, I want to repalce my nose gear spring. But it does not seem to come apart like others i have. Usually there is a screw that releases the piston so you can access the spring. I took the bottom plastic pieces off thinking that would do it. But nope. It can't just be the scissor link can it? Do i have to take the wheel axel bolt off to get in there, i guess?
@frankflyrc4 ай бұрын
Yes, that is correct. There is no screw holding the gear piston in place. You need to remove one of the C-clips. I removed the top one so the whole scissor link stays attached to the piston when it drops out.

I normally fly in as3x and take off in safe mode but this plane has its own brain and gave me alot of issues?? idk its nice but not my go to bird
@frankflyrc4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm trying to get some smoother landings. I haven't had one greaser, yet. But it does fly pretty good and stable. I hear what you're saying about the SAFE and AS3X, but I'm not familiar with those items as I don't use Spektrum and don't have a gyro/stabilizer on any of my fixed wing models. Since the gyro on this F-14 is built in to the control board, I used channel 8 on the receiver for the gyro and set the curve on the transmitter to -100 across all three positions on the switch the gyro is assigned to, effectively disabling it no matter what position that switch is in. With that being said, I do not have Reverse Thrust because that 8th channel on the RX (FrSky RX8R Pro) is being used for the gyro. Fortunately, I don't really need Reverse Thrust since I fly off grass. IMHO, the CG needs to be good (not on the tail-heavy side), but as neutral as possible using the CG markers on the fuse. I did my CG with the gears down, since all three gears retract in the forward direction, causing a minor forward shift of the CG when the gears go up. And the control surfaces need to be perfectly centered with each other mechanically. That can sometimes be tedious trying to manually center those. Hopefully, you get your F-14 squared away and it becomes more enjoyable to fly.
