Some people have said in the forest battle, Optimus was in the wrong because he did not try to negotiate with Megatron, Starscream and Grindor. Instead he chose violence, my man Optimus Prime is in a life or death situation being jumped by 3 opponents that are trying to kill him. Let alone trying kill a innocent human being which is Sam Witwickey. 2. It seems people really really have a problem for the way Optimus kills his enemies like ripping faces off along with the spinal cord sill attached or chopping arms and legs or cutting them in half. Some say that Optimus butchering his foes is a big no no during a war, That it's not ethical for your opponent to indure pain & suffering by doing the things Optimus Prime does in fights. 3. Finally! look, these are Alien Robots from outer space, Maybe thier laws of war are not the same as earth's. Is Optimus Prime not allowed to defend himself being jumped by Megatron, Starscream & Grindor? He has to first negotiate with them & Not use violence as a final option? So Optimus Prime is not allowed to go absolutely crazy in battle because he has to make sure his enemies are dead for good in order to protect human kind? I'm not a soldier nor never served in the military. So i really don't know what are you are & not allowed to do during a war. But! you can use this logic to try and unjustify Optimus Prime's heinous actions towards his enemies that are trying to destroy humanity & have no regard for human life.
