I have alwyas appreciated Gavins approach to education. He starts with the basics and builds on the fundamentals as well as mistakes until he reaches the end result or goal. His humorous lighthearted approach is what many of us need. If I want a straightforward then I look to Mark Wallace or Joe Edelman. Great interview. Thank you.

As a college sports photographer, I tell people not to go in asking for a sideline pass for Division I football. Offer to shoot tennis or rowing or volleyball. The sports information people (and their parents) want pictures of those players too. Do it for free if you're serious about it. That gets you known to the SIDs and two things can happen if you produce a good product. You may get the opportunity to move to men's basketball or football for the local college. But more often, a visiting team or their local media might not be able to afford to send their own photographer. So they ask the host SID for recommendations for someone to be a stringer for the visiting team. And the SID will always recommend someone they know who has produced good work for them in the past, even if their past good work is in non-revenue sports.

Mark, you've given yourself a mountain to climb by heading back to the USA! Perhaps Canada may be a better choice if Columbia can't work out for you,,,loved your comment about Unmesh Dinda - couldn't agree more! Camera Shake: we subscribe to the podcast too in addition to Mark's new channel presence. We have no idea what shape the world will be in a few years from now - maybe the bots will run everything, who knows, but we will be watching you Mark on your channel until Meta really pisses us off with commercial breaks selling us sh++ we'd never buy - then we'll say "screw it", grab some gear and go out and shoot. Cheers, all.

Thank you Camera Shake for this episode and look forward to others. Good Luck to Mark as well.

Awesome interview really enjoyed that congrats on the Pulitzer well deserved. I'm based in new Zealand have been shooting for newspapers for 20 years covered some amazing things a couple of years ago cyclone Gabrielle smashed into our region causing death and destruction like I've never seen or want to see again. Imho I shot some of my best work during the storm and it's wake. Incredible times. Four weeks ago the company decided they no longer need photographers we also shot video crazy they're relying on journos snapping shots with their smartphones progress aye. I'm missing that job every day photojournalism it's in my blood.

Thanks for doing this episode. I’ve watched many of Stewart Wood’s KZbin videos over the last year and learnt a lot about the macro techniques he uses. But this conversation took the insight to a whole different level of technical detail, especially the production aspects of operating a KZbin channel. It’s not something I intend to do myself but I found the whole topic fascinating. I listened to the podcast and need to watch a couple of segments where he was demonstrating his equipment. I look forward to the weekly episodes - oops another one has been released! Time for another car journey to listen to it.

Hi @normansavigar, thank you for watching/listening and for supporting the channel. I've loved Stewart's work for a long time and it has served as inspiration for a toy photography series I shot for the Platypod KZbin channel, which includes plenty of macro elements, focus stacking, etc. I see quite a few macro images of insects at photo competitions but nothing like Stewart's work - it really is absolutely outstanding.

There is NO such thing as AI. There NEVER will be. Sure, a machine can evaluate patterns faster than humans to generate similar ones, but that's all. Turn off the patterns and the code and AI disappears. Terminating the power source to the machine will guarantee this. It will NEVER be able to think for itself. Period.

An informative, vulnerable and authentic discussion between artists. Something I hear over again is 'put out the kind of work you want to get paid to shoot'. I think there is a phenomenon where the developing artist, being unsure of what they actually enjoy are simply happy to get paid, and end up producing work that is somewhat accidental, and heaven fobid they beome successful at it, because they may well have delayed their artistic development as a unique voice with a unique process. Then again, not all people, even artists, want to keep developing. I have met many who are happy in their rut.
@CameraShake24 күн бұрын
@steveh8658 I think being happy and enjoying what you do is the ultimate goal for every artist to reach - at least for a while until it's time to do something new. That's the great thing about the creative arts - it allows you to go wherever you want to go. On the commercial side however it can be more tricky :)
@steveh865824 күн бұрын
