Wow! They act so modest at the beginning and then break out this sparkling version of the song. Thanks for recording and sharing, Jim.

Thanks! Claiborne Woodall is a real undiscovered treasure. He lives in Abingdon VA and Wyatt lives in Damascus, VA and play together often. Been encouraging them to record together, but not their thing, unfortunately.

Whether Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Green Party, we all have one thing in common-ENOUGH WITH ALL THE HATE FILLED CAMPAIGN ADS!! Here's a tune done to the classic "Rainbow Connection" music that I "borrowed" from the Charlotte Observer a couple of years ago when Thom Tillis and Kay Hagen were slugging it out on a tube near you. I'll credit the original author once I find out who it was, but this let me blow off a little pent up frustration about the sorry state of our election process and the even sorrier way the candidates are comporting themselves. Oh, blessed November 9th, you can't get here soon enough!!!

Hello hello, the song is titled "The Message" from the "Three Bells" album by Rob, Jerry Douglas, and Mike Auldridge. It is referring to the message Mike sent to the younger generation of dobro players.

Thanks! I corrected the title. What a wonderful instrumental.

This is a really nice series of videos. I have been a big fan of Wyatt for years, but learned of Claiborne only through your videos. This rendition of "My Favorite Things" sounds heavily influenced by Tony's version off the Backwaters album. They really nail it. I am curious about the recording equipment used here. Is this straight off the video camera? The sound quality is excellent and I don't see any microphones set up. Anyway, great job and thanks for posting these videos.

Yep, Waltz for Indira off the Mar West album, circa 1980. The TRU albums from the late 70's/early 80's contain some of Tony's most creative work. This is a very nice rendition though.

"This Old House theme" is in no way the same song as "Louisiana Fairytale." Peter Bell mimics the texture and chord progression, but it is a disservice to Fats Waller to equate the two.

David Bishop We're both right-original theme song from 1979 to 2002 was LFT. The theme song was changed after This Old House Ventures acquired the series from WGBH. The next theme song was called "This Old House '97" composed by Peter Bell. A new one followed that in 2009. Bill Janovitz then wrote the show's current theme music in 2012. (from Wikipedia)

Ah, that would explain it. They still sound eerily similar.

This is so insane. Would die to be there. Huge fan of Tony and Waytt, and all the great jazz players since late 70s including the Grisamm Quintet. Watts album is the most beautiful and elegant acoustic flatpick record ever made. A real treasure. More traditional than the TR Unit but so solid and melodic. Loved River Suite but man this is spine tingling. You guys are right there with the best in the world as far as I'm concerned. Made it to Merlefest In the 90's gotta get back and find some shows you are playing.

Joe Scott You're so right, Scott. Wyatt and Claiborne are in the more trad vein, but still very influenced by Tony and Dawg. Just last weekend we did the Tez-Fest weekend with Wyatt and Claiborne. Again, a truly spiritual experience listening to them. Claiborne wrote and instrumental called "Westward" which was very much influenced by Tony's "Mar West" album. I'll be posting some more videos from last weekend-enjoy!!

Got this video of Jerry playing with Michael Kilby, a young and very good reso player doing "Going Down The Road Feeling Bad" at last years IBMA show in Raleigh NC. Tut Taylor, a true bluegrass icon and pioneering dobro player looks on. Jerry is playing the new Beard Model 27 Tut Taylor signature reso guitar while Michael is playing the Blackbeard.

lovely stuff...whats your banjo tuning??
@hubcap5311 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It is a plectrum 4 string banjo tuned to DGBD instead of the more common plectrum tuning of CGBD. I [lay 5 string bluegrass banjo, too and I'm too lazy to learn another tuning, so I use the same one from my bluegrass banjo, minus the 5th string.
@PHJimY11 жыл бұрын
Super tune! Lotsa fun. Is that a plectrum (or tenor) tuned DGBD? That's what your fingers looked like. If so, is it common to tune a plectrum that way
