Board St. That was the grade crossing that I rehab back in 2006, 2007, on the east branch as a railroad contacter. Wever piano that was hot 🔥 too. Then, the 2 firemen lost their lives in the investigation 🔎 of the fire. Sad day that day.

Good afternoon. My grandfather and grandmother lived on Elm st back in the 1970s to 1990. That was one hot fire. I remember when the Thornet furniture build burn on Princess to King St, and it melted the rails on the M&P it was that hot. It happened in the wintertime. It was a 7 alerm fire. With frozen hoses. They were taken them back to Duke St. fire house and hanging them in the hose tower.

@xavienchatman OK some old Yorks history. So the big player in York history. (1) The M&P from Baltimore to York mile post 77. Came from the south. But the York rail crew called it the east branch. (2) The NCR from Harrisburg to Baltimore, where the NS is at the Windsor yard today. NCR is on Pershing Ave. (3) Western Maryland. Starts in porter siding in Hanover to city of York to the block plant along the condors creek at mill run. That line is being pulled up in the city at a few spots. (4) The York penndale line from starting in Frederick MD to Columbia Wrightville Bridge. Became the PRR ,PC That line is were east penn runs today. Most of the track at the York fair all thu town. (5) York railway. The street car line. That was the biggest street/ trolley line in PA. Carbarn and street shop on Maryland Ave and Hartley st. That was the player.

@@xavienchatman Back in Spring 1977 I made a trip from Baltimore up to the Ma & Pa in York. I had my "The Ma & Pa" history book by George Hilton with me. While I was walking around their tracks, a switching crew conductor walked over to me. I thought he was going to fuss at me for being on their property. Just the opposite, he handed me a copy of their orders from earlier in the day and said, "Here would you like this?" He recognized that I was a railfan and saw the book I was holding. He invited me up into the engine and the crew took a short run down the line to pick up an empty gondola at a steel fabrication facility. That conductor was working for the RR when it still ran to Baltimore. He looked at the photo of an engine derailment at Oakleigh in 1953 and told me he was there that day. He gave details like it was just yesterday...really made the book come alive for me as he looked through it. It made my day!
