I think it's important to say the amount should also reflect the demand of the job but also country. Because while $400 isn't much to some to others that's a lot. For example in my country no one will pay $200/per day or even $50 per job because my country's economy is very bad and people are poor. So, adjustment should be made accordingly. 😅

A reciprocating saw vibrates and fractures the drywall. Especially on a ceiling where it is always fighting gravity you will definitely have a crack.

You're probably right. Thank God I didn't use a reciprocating saw... 😬

That was amazing Darrell, well done sir! I I used to be a helper for a guy that did doors and windows and he was the only other person I ever saw do dust isolation like you are doing. He would also constantly be vacuuming even in the walls. People were so happy when the job was done. Used to get huge tips. Hope you do. You deserve them. Cheers.

How do you adjust billing when you encounter the unknown. I'm working on a small project that started as "repair water damage next to the tub" and has turned into a week's long project of treating out all of the tub surround tile work because the plaster had basically turned into sand behind the old tile. It's so much more involved, as I kept finding other issues. And, on top if it all, it's the only bathroom for the tenants, so I've had to keep the bathroom cleaned up every evening and re-prep every morning. Plus, the shower has to remain in workable/ usable condition throughout the project. Those things as so much time each day to the project. I have no idea how to bill for all of this.

I have a zipwall system but only use it for spraying texture. My Festool equipment with dust extractor provides virtually dust free sanding. Makita also makes a cordless drywall saw with dust extraction that does fast and easy dust free cutting. It barely cuts past the depth of the drywall so you don’t have to worry about hitting anything else.

I have a vacuum and sander that work well together but the Makita drywall saw is definitely on my list of tools to get.

Your thoughts on using a wet sponge to go over plaster before it dries to reducing the amount of sanding ?
@-KIMISAFOX8 күн бұрын
Definitely not expert level but certainly a step above DIY. Couple of tips to help you step your game up. Those two patches should be merged into one giant patch. There's 100% a nice little dip between them. Tip#2 take your light, and shine it along the ceiling so you can see if it's flat. Shining your light directly at the ceiling patch like you are fools you into thinking you're good.

How did you get thr circle measured and cut? By tapping it to get a line?
@DarylTheFINISHER4 күн бұрын
Yep, in this situation I just tapped it on the light to a get line. Sometimes I'll poke a hole in the area where the light is, hold the drywall up to the ceiling and cut a hole with the RotoZip. It's all situational

Drywall repair is an art form. I've had someone repair my knock-down textured ceiling after I put my foot through it in from the attic. I could only see the repair because I knew it was there. Otherwise, it was invisible. I later sold the home and the home inspector certainly didn't notice it. I can do plumbing. I can do electrical. I could probably do drywall with enough practice, but I don't have the time to learn it. I have nothing but respect for really good, talented drywallers.
@DarylTheFINISHER4 күн бұрын
In my area builders don't really use texture so every repair has to be ready for paint. You'll be fine with some practice, it's hard for me when I started too. I appreciate you taking the time to watch!

Im working to get my c-33 painting contractors license. I agree with not being afraid to being a well rounded tradesman, makes for a better professional. When I do become a professional painter, it doesn't make sense to me to not know how to repair/replace dryrot, water damage and damaged walls. It's just part or the process.
@DarylTheFINISHER4 күн бұрын
Even if you don't know how to replace it, it's always good to know about the process to give the customer an idea what they need to do. Good luck!

nice! Subscribed! I remember when the zip wall systems came out and we were so psyched, not having to hack together our own homemade systems that didn't work well. Homeowners HATE dust and resent you for creating it, we got a lot of jobs because we were able to promise a dust free experience.

Whats wild is how can you be offended to pay a deposit let's say half of the full bill of you are going to pay the full thing anyways at the end. Especially since it should be on costumers to get the material and pay for someones time that they are already taking.

I think i put liquid nail on top much stuff the first thing i thought was at least 2dabs of liquid nail but i don't really do crown molding mabye you don't need it. Id just worry that over time the nails won't hold but makes sense to get them into studs.

As an electrician, I will forewarn a client that I will have to make holes in certain cases, and I’m up front that I’m not good at repairing them. I can usually do my project without making holes, but I just like clients to be prepared that they might have to hire someone to repair the damage I did.
@DarylTheFINISHER14 күн бұрын
Understandable, that’s the way to do it. I would never expect my electrician to fix the drywall.
