Glad these old southern gothic BS songs have been relegated to the dustbin of history. Gentry always promoted the weak dumb woman archetype in her songs. Her fame, fans and husbands evaporated with her looks.

From all my research, she's still alive at 80 something. Can't figure out why she walked away from the spotlight. I hope she has drawers full of stuff she has written so someone might be able to bring her voice back.

@jackhogan1 Both the TriStar Pictures logo and Warner Bros. Pictures logo had the Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment jingle and 2003 Warner Home Video low tone jingle, Jack. Those 2 need to be fixed with their own jingles.

So-Called "Bobbie Gentry" isn't even her real name. She was born Roberta Lee Streeter. She obviously sold-out her birth name to the greedy & deceitful music business and anticipation of greater recognition & money. It also implies parental & heritage disrespect.

I don't know but Dusty Springfield's version of the song, "Son of a Preacher Man" does sound Country Music as Country Music as Bobby Gentry's version of the same song. Maybe Alan Jackson's song character "Small Southern Man" is the title, can decide for the Country Music people, huh? Or is it a "Harper Valley PTA" song problem of Jeannie C. Riley's rendition of the characters in this particular song. Seems that the Country Music songs have answers, circles within circles of their own songs, and versions and renditions of those songs, don't you think so, too? Answers come by words and actions, too.😊
