10:03 : In Hungary, milk is usually sold with a fat content of 0.1%, 1.5%, 2.8% and 3.5%. No preservatives are added to any of the varieties, their shelf life depends on the heat treatment technology and the container (and storage). - UHT (Ultra Hight Temperature Treated Technology) is an ultra-high temperature heat treatment process whereby the milk is heated at 136-142°C for 2-6 seconds and then aseptically packaged (germ-free) when cooled to room temperature. This allows the milk to be stored for up to 3-6 months in unopened cartons without refrigeration. - ESL (Extended Shelf Life) technology involves heating the milk to a temperature of 100-135°C for a very short time (at least 0.1 second) and then cooling it rapidly. This greatly reduces the number of microorganisms present. These milks can be kept for about 1 month in unopened cartons, refrigerated. Of the UHT / ESL, ESL is the more delicate and gentler on the beneficial vitamins in the milk. - Pasteurised milk (usually in plastic bags) used to be available and could be stored refrigerated for about 1 week. Pasteurisation involves heating at 72-76 °C for 20-40 seconds. - You can also buy raw milk (whole milk) from a farmer, which you have to boil yourself before using and keep in the fridge. This can only be used for a few days.

Trees and plants share water and nutrients through their root systems, trees can share water that has traveled hundreds of miles from coastal regions where it rains frequently inland. If you cut down and plow hundreds of acres of land thereby eliminating the ground cover....you destroy the surface water network of living vegetation.

Very true in many weeds and I so often say that weeds are plants in the wrong place. As an example in another video I mention a volunteer tomato plant that appeared in a bed of beans. In the wrong place- so is that a weed..........? I guess if we look at each one we can decide for our own needs. I agree about dandelions, especially the ones I had in my many English gardens either mine or clients. But some people like them as they use them in salads or make fake coffee from them. Here, I am happy to let them grow as they do 2 things, one the yellow flowers attract certain beetles we get here away from the veg, and 2 the seeds make great food sources for the Goldfinches. In the UK I rarely saw Goldfinches, and when I did, maybe 2 or 3 at a time. Here I get flocks of over 40!

Thanks its the first video like this Ive noticed and I think you have a good point to make about the weeds. We try to mass control the garden but working in with what nature does could be a greater benefit than traditionally wiping out all the weeds around our gardens. Ive discovered also that what we call weeds, have grown up high in severe heat when it was too hot for me to do any gardening. They covered my plants like a canopy and protected them from drying out and actually kept my plants alive in the heat. I was amazed to find my plants still alive when the weather cooled down enough to tackle some weeding. Then I began to think more about the role that weeds play in the garden. The weeds didnt harm my plants, they protected them. And another time I got two very tall weeds growing and they had a lot of ladybirds on them so I decided to leave those weeds alone until the ladybirds had finished there. These days Im more tolerant with weeds and we pull some out, compost those, and leave some to grow through their season. I also leave the clover growing in the lawn for the few months the bees are using it and it comes back the next year. Ive noticed some weeds grow together and wonder if one of them support the other. Its interesting learning the cycles of the weeds that come and go in seasons. We also enjoy the dandelions that pop up and mostly leave them to grow as they look so rich and healthy. And we've found some milk thistle which also has some benefits too. Ive yet to learn the names of different weed plants and have always managed them by hand not by chemicals as it doesnt stop anything permanently afterall. Things grow back, regardless of the toxic solutions and the weeds have cycles in the year where they grow well and die back at other times naturally. Otherwise if I am to keep things from growing in the paver cracks I just use either vinegar or boiling water from the kettle and do that once each season for that area only. Thanks for showing the video, it was great to see such green growth when the background uniform planted crops had all died off. The vigour of the green from weeds was a good sight to see. 👍😊

I generally struggled to grow melons in our harsh short climate, but the year that life took over and so did the weeds. I grew the best melons ever. The weeds not only apparently sheltered the melons; they also hid them from the raccoons and pheasants. Hedgehogs only eat snails or slugs when they don't find enough insects. They get sick from eating them, because snails and slugs contain parasites which make the hedgehogs suffer from lung worms and helminths. Their primary food are bugs and other insects. Also the snail which you're showing, eating the oats, is a Roman snail and it's on the ICUN red list, because it's threatened by extinction. You shouldn't kill them, they eat rotten plant parts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helix_pomatia
@diaryofanorganicgrower
@diaryofanorganicgrower 29 күн бұрын
hi and thank you for you comments. Intially, I was alarmed to read it thinking I must have overlooked something so did some more research. Whilst I agree their primary food is as you describe, they are also happy to consume anything that comes their way, including fallen fruit and even birds' eggs. And, if they come across a snail, they take that too, even as you say, not good for them. I did take note of your comments about being on the ICUN Red List and looked at the link you gave - it does actually state there that they are considered as being of "least concern" which appears further in the reference you provided, and do not appear on the actual list. As for eating plant matter, the aim of the video is to show an alternative way to control them. Not all die, many just slide away and hide, or get predated by other species. I myself keep this remedy as a back up and rely on nature to take care, including the many toads we have here, and any I find I actually put on my compost heap. I am lucky to have a great eco-system here that I nuture so I do not have a big problem with them. Once again though, thanks for taking the time to send me your thoughts and I hope I have clarified things better

@Miss_Meowya 28 күн бұрын
@@diaryofanorganicgrower Hi, yes you're right. Hedgehogs can be very opportunistically, but most of all they are carnivorous. It was important to me to clarify this, because people think so often, that snails and slugs are their primary food source. I had some sick hedgehogs in fosterages myself, which got sick from the worms. It's heartbreaking so see when they're coughing and not able to breathe properly. Hedgehogs mostly don't find enough food in the environment anymore and would be happy about human support in shape of grain free cat food. 🦔 Sorry, my fault, you're right. The Roman snails are not threatened by extinction. But they are under conservation in several European countries and to kill them is illegal as well in a lot of European countries. So I think these two snails weren't a good pick for your presentation. Overall I liked your video and I appreciate everyone who's not using toxins in their garden.

This video came on my feed, for some reason. Glad i stayed to watch, its nice to see a down to earth gardening segment that isn't promoting chemicals or expensive shovels & buckets! Your produce looks great. Good idea with leaving those weeds to shelter those pumpkins. Celeriac above all lives & thrives with lots of water, to save moisture around it, aged cow manure or a compost which is kept moist, gives celeriac the best conditions. You have a lot of compost material which is always a bonus for the garden. May i suggest that you mix some torn up cardboard, & any other similar material, mixing/layering various materials give a richer & faster compost. I also place in a barrel full of water, some weeds , letting that sit for st leadt 2 weeks. This i use as a feeding tonic for my garden, strain how much i need , dilute & water my veg & fruit. Ive never had any pests or diseases in the last 4 yrs. ( Could be luck to) Everything seems to grow much stronger & healthier. Thank you, enjoyed your video. Cheers from Australia

You're welcome. We are in one of the regions you mentioned. Currently we are experiencing very high temperatures and will hit 40+ by the mid week. That plus low rainfall totals makes things tricky so I imagine you would need to provide decent shelter and water supply.

Very helpful advice. I will try the mixture on my aphid issue. Thank you!

You are welcome. Do let me know how you get on. Did you see the video about slug and snail control?
