A 37 year old Christopher Hitchens here couldn’t be more on point. Love his fantastic mind and intellect, the world is indeed poorer without this giant of reason, sorely miss him.

At 44:00 both the questioner and McHugh are wrong. They shouldn't just assign people according to a DNA test. For example, people with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) have XY chromosomes, but assigning them as 'male' would be wrong because their body nor brain are non responsive to male sex hormones (androgens). Their bodies look completely female, and their brains are of the female arrangement. Some of the intersex conditions which produce atypical genitalia also produce incompletely masculinised or feminized brains, thus we cannot "know" which children would be better assigned male nor female, and they should usually be left alone.

It's amazing to see how naive the 2 professors except for Dr. Lewis about the Islamic Republic. What we got from the revolution is even more monstrous regime than before. These 2 were proven to be fools for believing that Ayatollah Khomeini would create a benign order.

One of the things I've learned overtime, is that lefty-intellectuals as well as Islamist ones, consistent with the tradition always going back to Marx, have always seen the purpose of their intellectual tradition, as not to provide accurate information, but to change society. Because of that, there is little study or attention given to on how to develop systems or governments to achieve such an end. The primary goal, focus and obsession is overthrowing the powers that be, not exercising power well or justly and the difficulties and stresses those in can power may face that might jeopardize that ideal. Lewis here does what an original and a true intellectual is supposed to do: give you accurate information, so you can project, plan or strategize for the future. Of course Lewis ended up being right, not because he's vastly more educated than the other two, but because he saw his purpose as being to provide accurate information. When you don't have a system built or constructed to purposely achieve your ends, the default and traditional precedents dictate that history will merely repeat itself, because that's what systems are designed to do: provide consistent outcomes, regardless of the parties at play. The modern west has designed systems to promote freedom, often at the expense of restraining religious institutions desire for power and total domination; this does not exist in an Islamic State, and there's none of the revolutionaries with all their revolutionary rhetoric have any idea how to build a system capable of doing such things, because they wrongly presume, like all lefties and non-government understanding blowhards, that if you simply get rid of all the corrupt people in power, you don't need a system, good people will just figure out utopia on their own smh.

Edward Said has turned out to be incorrect and most of his statements viewing the Middle East currently. The PLO turned into the Palestinian authority which revealed itself to be more in favor of terrorism than a democratically or constitutionally liberal government, it embraced sharia law and became a terrorist entity. The inability of the Palestinian authority which was set up in 1993 under the Oslo accords had little promises of succeeding although the participants had the ideal searching for a resolution to the conflict instead poured gasoline on it with a match prepared to be lit.And indeed it has been set on fire.

Hitch tried to hold onto the idea that the Palestinians are worth fighting for, for a while. I tried. They've always made it difficult. Now they've made it impossible.

The best leader a country could possibly have. His people did not deserve this great and visionary man. Just look at what has happened to Iran and its people in the 40 some years since the Shah left.

I had the honor of meeting Prof Edward Said in 1997 while studying for my graduate degree at Columbia. I still treasure the 15-minute conversation I had with him. He was not just an intellectual superpower, but also an exceptional man. May he rest in peace.
