Thanks. There are some banjo tunes "out there" that really play well on the autoharp. I highly recommend giving them a try on autoharp.

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong Under the shade of a coolibah tree And he sang as he watched and waited til' his billy boiled "Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?" And he sang as he watched and waited til' his billy boiled "Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?" Down came a jumbuck to drink at the billabong Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" Up rode a squatter, mounted on his thoroughbred Down came the troopers one, two, three "Who's that jolly jumbuck you've got in you tucker bag?" "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" "Who's that jolly jumbuck you've got in you tucker bag?" "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" Up jumped the swagman and sprang into the billabong "You'll never catch me alive!!" said he And his ghost maybe heard as you pass by that billabong "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me!" And his ghost maybe heard as you pass by that billabong "Youll come a watzing matilda with me!"

When I perform this song on autoharp at festivals here in the US, I do sing the lyrics but I first always give some of the word definitions to the audience as many of the words are unknown to many Americans.

Thanks for this as i recited paddys lamentation in russian to this video. God bless america and ireland. As for russia, there will be peace and the war will soon be over. The bluebell polka
@charleswhitmerautoharp9 ай бұрын
These 2 tunes do sound so similar that it probably isn't a coincidence. In the American Old Time genre there was a lot of borrowing from other traditions and it wouldn't be a surprise if the Old Time fiddlers borrowed this tune from the Bluebell Polka you mentioned. There was frequently a lot of "cross pollination" between different music traditions.
@tom998929 ай бұрын
@@charleswhitmerautoharp Hi Charles. I have noticed that with a lot of tunes. Frank Dejarlais plays a tune and Bill.? (forgotten surname) plays the same tune, absolutely identical, differ names different composers. Bill calls it fiddle Strings, Frank calls it Le Polka de Caraquet.
