Why did you replace the original artwork you used for this game years ago, with something that looks like generic AI art which looks like it's from some Chinese mobile game? It doesn't even fit this game :/

because I find it way more beautiful and attractive, I choose it so I find it fitting the game since I'm the author of the game and story

4:00 BlitterCopyBitmap4 what about performance in "C" vs assembler ?
@OrionSoft
@OrionSoft Ай бұрын
My library contains 50% of assembly code, the GIF loading, all the blitter functions, the VBL hook, the sound mixer are all in optimized assembly
@Miesiu
@Miesiu Ай бұрын
There is a lot od easier write code in "C" instead of assembler, but... what about the performance ?
@vbarr67
@vbarr67 Ай бұрын
The C code is doing the "orchestration", the heavy lifting is done by the library routines and as you can see, they looks well optimized because it runs really smooth ! :) Now if you like asm better, you can also do it (with GNU-as)
@OrionSoft
@OrionSoft Ай бұрын
as you can see, the game runs at 50fps, you can't make it faster than that ;) The recent GCC compiler with the compilation flags I use makes a pretty decent code generation, way better than the old Pure C compiler for example, and as already said, my library contains 50% of assembler code for all the critic parts.

Many thanks for this tut video on how to write a homebrew program on a PSX one with an original. Sony SDK DEV kit!!! Everything like that is way too stressful for me, I also think c++ is a pretty ugly, annoying DEV language! Like the expensive original Sony DEV kit, it is unfortunately complete “TRASH”, not worth a cent. BECAUSE WHY? The best thing is - first, as a good C++ programmer, you should first create your own very simple BASIC "object programming kit" YOURSELF! So that -game development- is like a painting program for children! As a GAME EDITOR, any 3D "objects" can be imported onto the screen via a visible "game map", where you can of course also set their object properties, such as an "object path", i.e. their movement by clicking on! These “3D objects” can then also have additional functions.

yes, what I have roughly described here Something like this existed on the PC a few thousand years ago as an easy-to-use 3D software called “FPS Creator” ???? Maybe this interesting 3D “software” also had something to do with darkbasic?

alongside,There are many copy examples, such as: The PI pico N64 card or the famously expensive super "Everdrive" suddenly appeared as a very inexpensive replica in world-famous everything "made in China" shipping companies. Whether it's Sega, Megadrive, SNES, or today the ancient PSX One, N64, Xbox one... SD reader function is a big must these days! I really wonder why there aren't such creative, social, talented hardware "inventors" in Europe and the USA, who have not forgotten the more than 35 year old RETRO 8,16, or 32 bit video consoles, and have long since built a usable, inexpensive multi-function I/O module, such as an "all-in-one" MCU including a real USB PORT ,since they are available for dirt cheap. So good luck for further hardware projects and many greetings from me as a retro console collector.

my inexpensive PSX idea is to make a cheap PI "pico" CHIP into a multi-function i/o device for this old-fashioned ANNO 1996 Sony "Ps1". See also the hardware "PICO 64" CARD for the N64. Because a) it is super cheap in terms of the MCU components costs b) it has all the “up-to-date” Anno 2024 functions... like reading and writing from SD card, there is a PC keyboard connection as well as the Wroom32 as a real “WLAN” via UPDATE EXTRA “OPTION”! Yes, such a simple, fast SD MULTI I/O "plug&play" plug-in module would be much better than the rather incomprehensible ones, such as the expensive hardware conversion with something like AKA e.g. "PICO Station" as a CD drive emulator. Particularly bad and cruel are the many dangerous SMD soldering jobs!

let's call it "Kung Fu Flash for PSX one" for an ancient 8 BIT "C64" home computer, someone here has already put together something similar, and it has 3 buttons for special functions including an SD card reader, unfortunately the developer forgot the 8 MB "IC2" RAM memory for the mcu there !

I bought the PSIO over the xstation because I wanted to be able to keep use of my disc drive. I only afterwards found out just how byzantine the registration process is for the device and just how anal the company (owner) is about transferring the license or running any unofficial firmware on it. Its a well designed tool but if i was to do it over i might instead go with xstation

By the way, a new GUI as a user interface would also be very interesting for a good old "cracked" PS2, so that programming in micro ptyhon can be learned in school lessons on this "former" RETRO 3D video game console. So as a modular system, where graphics and sound are included can be clicked, as well as imported from pc.

It would also be really nice if our world homebrew developers would finally give our dear 3D "PS1" a new "GUI" in order to then turn it into a real, freely usable "home" computer including a "basic programming language" like modern ones Mirco Python. What would also be a good "LEARNING project" for all of our schools to give our android addicted cell phone teenagers a future.☺

Thank you very much for this good hardware project!😁 I think with an inexpensive STM32F4 MCU this "USB dev cart", which can also read and write SD cards and also has a real PC keyboard connection, would be the best choice for our own PS One retro homebrew!🤩
@ruhrpottradio
@ruhrpottradio 3 ай бұрын
first size "sorry", for my bad English! This Sony PS1 has been on the market for almost 30 years, but Sony only had a prototype in planning as a PC keyboard adapter, which you couldn't buy later... because their successor game console "PS2" already came out with a USB port. But maybe after this very long time, a "plug&play" MCU hardware module will finally be put together where this function (including SD card) is already included???
@ruhrpottradio
@ruhrpottradio 3 ай бұрын
We would all be very happy that someone finally came up with this good idea! It would actually be child's play: for someone who is a good C++ developer and knows a bit about programming cheap "ALL-in-one" MCUs, e.g. PIC, PI PICO or STM32, it really wouldn't be a problem to present to us a PSX 1 "multi-function module "CART", which can do all the modern I/O functions of a standard "PC". So an ancient PSX1 finally a real retro homebrew PC! 😉

the serial transfer for Net Yaroze was very slow, my USB cartridge is ten times faster. Net Yaroze executable are in COFF format if I remember correctly and needs an additional library, my cartridge only support standard PS-X Exe file generated by the official PSYQ sdk or all other homebrew sdk

@@OrionSoft Ah I see, something to keep in mind then. Actually speed wise the psx serial port supports higher speeds, I noticed this at the time and I came across a video by brill on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZrKiammlq-gnZY. Regardless your device looks to be a lot more convenient. I'm very tempted to pre-order as it's not expensive and I have an old chipped psx with a worn cd drive I could use. I got some questions about this cart would this cart be compatible with the ps1 sdk kit and would there be any updates with the firmware or software/ code that needs to make the cart work ? Will the cart be improved in the future ? Plus would the code for the cart to work be open source ? So people can help improve it ?
