What’s a good solution to manage mold on slate roofs?

Can you help? Is there any way for me to increase the R-Value of the roof from inside, without removing the rubber and working from top down???? Details: I live in a 1000 sq. ft. ranch house built in 1960. The roof has about a 15 degree slope. When I pull down a piece of ceiling drywall in the open living room, I see a 2x8 rafter with 5 ½ inches of faced batt insulation. Then the roof deck, ½ insulation board and then a white rubber covering on top. Looks like it was all quality done at the time. ---- The 2-3 inch gap between the top of the insulation and the bottom of the deck allows it to breath, with vented soffit. Thank you if you have any ideas, as my web research has been unfruitful.

I am a retired catastrophe Adjuster with over 20 years of experience. my roof got hit in August 2024 I called Farmers and they sent a adjuster out to inspect roof for damage. I went up before hand and marked hits 12+ in smaller areas than the normal 10' x 10' test square. The adjuster was up on the roof for about 15- 20 minutes and sais it looked fine he didn't see any hail damage. He never marked anything or measured anything and he never looked up under shingles or any of the normal steps of roof inspecting. I called supervisor and even sent him a dozen photos of the hail hit damage he tried to say it was just foot fall. I told him foot fall doesn't make the same marks as these hail hits. I even sent him a photo of the chimney of our propane fire place that had 5 hits on the flashing. Our weather here in Western MT is turning to winter and it is going to be pretty tough to inspect roof when snow hits. I am about ready to call the state insurance board and tell them what is going on. Farmers Insurance has an Ambiguous statement about roof Marring which is not covered damage.

Can a solar tube shine enough sunlight to power a solar panel? And if so, how much heat would the solar panel be exposed to? And could this excess heat be transferred to fire bricks?

I am puzzled and frustrated that three tab has a shorter life. On this house, it would look much better than the architectural shingles, which are similar materials but alternate between two layers and one for effect. But that means the single layer part should be failing just as soon as the three tabs which are all single layer. So if the three tab fail earlier, that means lower quality material. Why don't they make high quality material three tab?

I'm putting gutters on my house myself right now. You need to buy a standoff for your ladder. NOBODY is getting on my roof without one, even where there's no gutter. Otherwise, that was good info. I'm gonna try to find those boots. What do you do when the aggregate is loose? My roof is steeper than that, I have to scoot up and down on two foam cushions.I have a harness and ski rope if I could just find it.

I just went up on my roof and it's an 8/12 with a ridge vent. Is it ok to walk on that ridge vent because it was very awkward walking and straddling it?

It means don't hire them and they may even be fly by night scammed... taking your money and running. Be sure to them why you won't hire them.

I just had my 104 year old slate roof replaced, and the roofer said the front side (which got the most sun) was in excellent condition and didn't even need to be replaced! Yup, original roof since 1920!! Only reason I replaced it was because some of the slates had dislodged and fallen off, causing a leak. The roofer said he could replace the slates, but he would break 20 to fix 2 (walking on the slates).

When walking down a roof, if you feel concerned, walk down the roof as low as you can. This way if you start to slide (because the roofing is in poor condition for example) then you can sit down quickly. Wearing denim jeans (or similar material) is preferred as they will grip well on asphalt shingle roofs.

Another option for a sun tunnel to make it more attractive, is make it a rectangle - and build a recessed large shadow box for it in the ceiling. I recessed mine 8" high, 14"W - 22"L. Place trim around it in the inside and out. Make the opening smaller by a few inches than the shadow box in the ceiling so you can lay a plastic jaded covering panel. It dispenses the circle of light across the entire rectangle. It looks AMAZING. My next step is to somehow put holes in the plastic panel and hang dozens of different layers of crystals hangers from it so that you can't see the plastic panel andjust see all the crystals glistening in the sunlight from above it! Granted it would be nice if there was fresh air in the room, but you just put the strongest fan you can in there and it truly freshens it up in 5 minutes.

What does flashing cost

I can’t find whether the rigid tube should appear seamless internally prior to the diffuser installation. My installer did it in such a way that the internal connections don’t appear seamless. Help!
