Squirrels are exceptionally intelligent and crafty. Good luck paying good money for a, "squirrel-proof" bird feeder! (Just mix cracked red pepper with the bird feed, and that will keep the squirrels away.) But hey, squirrel's have to make a living, too! Hang some corn cobs up slathered with peanut butter and peanuts. Your visiting squirrels will have a field day, and love you very much!

I can also verify that they store acorns to sustain them through the winter ... and the ones they didn't eat? We have to walk our acre and a half every year to pull saplings. Yes, squirrels are cute unless you live in the country. Then, they're are nothing more than a nuisance. Tree squirrels better than ground. We shoot ground squirrels because they steal our insulation.

They aren't cute and lovable at our house. We have ground squirrels, that build tunnels underground for safety ... and allow them to tunnel into your crawl space to remove insulation for their nests. When we got everything on the outside replaced, it was found that we were missing insulation up to the second floor. They dig holes large enough to allow skunks to live under our house or whatever is small enough to get into the hole to the nirvana of the crawlspace during winter. I don't care about tree squirrels. They can live their best lives. But we shoot ground squirrels because they take out insulation and cost us hundreds of dollars in heating cost.

Squirrels are useless rodents that are highly evasive creatures and cause damage on house sidings and create havoc on electric wiring and insulation. They are over achievers and will continue to harbor food even though they have a abundance of food and resources of it. They are like crack heads looking for their next fix. While I agree they are fascinating and not as menacing looking like rats but non the less they are still evasive rodents and need to be controlled and managed.

Yeah they're cute till they get in your attic and chew up your ductwork and cost you a lot of money. Or they build a nest on a car engine that sat for a few days and then the first time you take it out it sets on fire. They will chew the roof vent boots and cause water leaks that brings your ceilings down. And I'm sure there's lots more examples.
