Those pearls are BLOOD PEARLS. Please find out on KZbin. A tribe to where the pearl farm are oppressed by the JEWELMER.
@natividadbooth48356 күн бұрын
Mr Matt Harris, please, search the history of where from the pearls of that crown. Lies within those pearls are the brokehearts of the people, an indigenous tribe in Bugsuk Island, Palawan Phil's. They were oppressed by the people who rgreedily uns the pearl farm in that island.

How do you differienciate a Fresh Water Pearl from a Sea Pearl? Thanks!
@mattharrispearls5 күн бұрын
It takes experience looking at many pearls and then you can just tell. Some obvious signs are there too like size, shape and color. Learning how to spot Akoya, South Sea and Tahitan pearls might be the way to start and then the freshwater become more obvious when you see them.

I highly recommend watching this video. MIND BLOWN!!!! (Now on to my actual comment) I was looking up a video on the best craft pearls to buy. Then I saw you. You look like such a knowledgeable man I had to watch your video I love pearls, have a genuine set from my great grandmother. Play the I've been making jewelry and I found that people really like my copper heart outlined in pearls. Obviously I don't want to use real pearls but, like I said I couldn't resist your face and had to watch the video. I was wondering if you knew the best fake pearls to buy, preferably off Amazon where the paint won't chip. 😊 Pearls come from mussels they did not know that.
@mattharrispearls5 күн бұрын
Thanks for the compliments! I'm not sure where to buy the fake pearls... I'd guess there must be many on the usual sites like Etsy and amazon

I am looking to purchase a 10mm replacement pearl for a ring. Are there trustworthy sites to purchase from, or is it better to go directly to a jeweler?
@mattharrispearls14 күн бұрын
Most jewelers probably won't have any pearls that aren't already set in jewelry, but you could call some local jewelers and ask! Feel free to send me more of a description and I'll see if I can provide you one out of my stash!

Is a fresh water pearl a cultured pearl?
@mattharrispearls20 күн бұрын
Hello! Yes... it is! Well, there are also "natural" pearls that come from lakes and streams but the VAST majority are cultured.
Matt, I feel that gritty thing on my 2 pearls in comparison to the rest. But those 2 lose their luster as I scratch them. So they're not real either?
@mattharrispearls20 күн бұрын
Hmmm... hard to know. Do they actually peel when you scratch them or just seem to be more dull?

If the strand is weighty and cold to the touch, with a particularly beautiful clasp, the wires cross and I have to stick them in my mouth. Most of the time I can tell just by looking and touching. I've found real pearls in rural thrift shops, but not yet in the cities.
@jow5872Ай бұрын
I agree. I have always wondered why people fixate on roundness when luster is the more attractive factor. The unique shapes have an organic, textured quality.

Im so thankful to have come across your video! Even though it is a yr later. My Mother gave me a strand of "TWA" pearls. Have you ever heard of this nomenclature when dealing w/ pearls? Also, a friend sold me some very bulbous pink pearls. No real shape to them (ie: not round). Might I have over paid for these $350? Both are in storage, or I'd be using your methods to ID. Thank you again. On another subject, you've a great tone/pitch to your voice (by my standards). You enunciate well & keep your ands ums & errs to a minimum. (I'm a former Toastmaster, so I attend to those types of errors). Good presentation! Subscribed & liked. ❤

My mom has a platinum south sea pearl ring with diamonds around & everyone we talked to told us much less prices than what my late father paid for .Including real fancy pawnshops in Beverly Hills. Can pawnshops really tell the value ? She's thinking of selling it or giving it to me . We don't wanna risk by selling to collectors or auction it. What's the safest way to sell & get the most price ? I just found your channel by fluke. Thank you so much !! 💜
@mattharrispearlsАй бұрын
I thought I had replied but don't see it, so I apologize if you get two! In almost any case, you won't get a quote to buy jewelry that is anywhere near what you paid for it because there is so much mark up in traditional jewelry companies.... especially the retailers. I'm not aware of anyone at the pawn shops I know who are experts at pearls, but I'm sure it's possible! Without knowing more, in general, I'd say selling your pearls to pawn shops won't get you the best price. You might want to check for established jewelry stores in your area that have been around for a long time with good reputations, or maybe find someone like me in your area that buys pearls.
@spark_6710Ай бұрын
@mattharrispearls Thank you so much for your reply !! No,I didn't get any prior . We've visited a couple of jewelry/ pawn shops in Beverly Hills a few years ago & contacted one in Santa Monica via email ,but never responded. Everybody we've talked to said pretty much the same .There are no buyers in the U.S. for high-end pearls as there's no demand . Mom sold a couple of 3 carat diamond rings here in the U.S.& a 5 Carat diamond ring in Tokyo & she got very good prices. But ,no luck for the pearl .A couple of the pawn shops told us they'd buy it from mom at $ 13,000 or more. But,it really depends on the buyers. My late dad paid about 10 times more for that ring . Some says we should find collectors or sell on eBay lol 😅or auctions. Apparently, there are demands/ markets in Asian / Arabic, Middle East countries. But,again ,we're hesitant as we don't want any unwanted attention from con artists or criminals to mark us . There are lots of patience & efforts & cautions involved to sell by ourselves .So,pawnshops seem like the safest / best places to sell to. We'll ask around to see more ,though ! Thank you so much for your kind help. 🙏I really appreciate it !!💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞

I found what apearse to be a pear. Passed the test you mentioned. It’s like a composition of many flakes. If I put a flash light to it, you can see it’s made of many disks of different tones & sizes. But I think it might be fake cause its diameter is about the size of a quarter.

I'm enjoying your videos. My brother gave me 3 pearl necklaces and I am trying to learn more about them. One was sold to him as Tahitian pearls, but the strand looks exactly like a strand you show in one of your videos as blue Akoya. They are light blue with a slight grey tone. In some lighting they take on a slight light green hue. Mostly they look blue. They have a 14k white gold clasp. TFS

My brother gave me 3 pearl necklaces that belonged to his wife who passed away. He thinks they are all real. I'm trying to determine if they're real. The first is Tahitian pearls that are a grey bluish color. I think are real. They have 14K gold clasp, knots between each pearl and each pearl is a little different. The 2nd is a 3 string necklace with hefty gold clasp, but no knots. The 3rd is a long single string of smaller pearls with no clasp and each pearl is different, but no knots. All 3 necklaces are rather heavy. I am puzzled. The two clasps say 14kZ . Any idea what is the "Z" mark? I likely should take to a professional jeweler for evaluation.
@mattharrispearlsАй бұрын
Hello! Sorry for the delay on replying! Yep... take them to local jeweler and they should be able to tell you what you have. If you happen to be in Austin, bring them over! No idea what the Z means. Also... just because they have knots, doesn't mean they are real.... it's just as easy to knot fakes!
@creativitybycarilyn6634Ай бұрын
@@mattharrispearls Thanks! I did take them to a local jeweler in So Cal. and I was told they are all real, however I don't have confirmation on exactly what kind of pearls they are. I will take to another jeweler at some point to confirm if the blue/grey are indeed Tahitian. Thanks for your response.

My Mum told me to make sure I never got makeup on the pearls she gave me, as it would damage them. Also that perfume and hairspray was no good for them either. However she said that the more you wear them the better they look, something to do with the oil from your skin.
