Also BRAW is from Blackmagic which produce their own cameras. So they will not provide their IP to other competitors in the camera market. Internal RAW, 500 ISO constant DR Boost, best IBIS in the industry, and 12 stops of dynamic range is MADNESS on an MFT cam. Super excited to get my hands on one, honestly. I generally don't buy cams upon launch, as they tend to have improvements via firmware updates and lower prices later on (copped a GH6 a full year and a half after launch for $1300), but this really intrigues me. It's what my GH6 should have been all along.
@TheFilmmakersWorkshop

Very true. 85% of the GH7 is in the GH6. If you use film lenses, then PDAF isn't of any benefit and you can buy a 32 bit DJI Mic 2 for £89 if you really want that capability. I think maybe Gerald Undone should re -review the GH6. I have a feeling he may see it a bit differently now ; )

Good evening, thank you for sharing this amazing video. I would like to ask a question please. The Pocket 3 just arrived and I've already done some tests, but only by "eye". I do video editing and my eye is quite trained, but I haven't seen a difference in video quality between filming with the "Normal" and "D-Log" options. Yes, it's certainly a softer image, but in practice I don't see a leap in image quality. Can you see it? I don't know if you use the Pocket 3 often, can I ask you if you use it with the "Normal" option or with "D-Log"?* Thank you
@TheFilmmakersWorkshop
@TheFilmmakersWorkshop 11 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and your kind words. I shoot in D log. As its log it looks grey and desaturated and less sharp than normal mode. Normal mode is a final video look. If you want the most dynamic range, then I find log better for most of my paid work. You can make the log sharper or add noise reduction by scrolling up (under the log mode option box) and choose image adjustment, then -or+ sharpness and noise reduction. Hope that helps.

You mentioned zoom in this excellent little review. The low pixel count on the pocket 3 means that in 4k there is no difference between using its digital zoom vs cropping when editing, where you can change your mind. The pocket 2 had a quad beyer sensor so its zoom was more worthwhile. I simply mention this in case any viewers get carried away with the idea of using in-camera zoom, which is best avoided if possible.
@TheFilmmakersWorkshop
@TheFilmmakersWorkshop 11 ай бұрын
Good point. For those who are just uploading directly to KZbin or not editing then the zoom is there, but as you mention, it’s not optical so image quality will suffer. Same with my Action 3- avoid the zoom there completely!

If you want a waterproof camera you need the Action 4 from DJI, it’s cheaper too. That would be great. I'd like to clarify something with you if I may? Did you record straight from the HV30 via HDMI to the Atomos bypassing the tape or did you record on tape with the camera and then capture after the recording via HDMI to the Atomos? In NTSC countries, the 24fps footage recorded on tape with the HV 10/20/30 was a weird 60i segmented progressive frames with pulldown. I've got many hours of these tapes that look really good for being 2007-2010. What I'd like to see is if video already recorded ON TAPE can be sent directly from the HV30 to the Atomos via HDMI with the resulting file being a true progressive file with the pulldown removed. You may not have the same problem with 25fps footage in a PAL country, I don't know.
@TheFilmmakersWorkshop
@TheFilmmakersWorkshop 11 ай бұрын
@@mdindestin in the 25P mode I can and have recorded without pressing record in the device. The HV30 sends the video out as 1080i50. The clips look like progressive clips in Final Cut Pro X. No interlace effects. I’m 99% sure there’s no NTSC switch.
@mdindestin
@mdindestin 10 ай бұрын
There's a good chance that the output from the recorded tape via HDMI would be the same. I seem to remember the resolution on tape was 1440 x 1080 instead of 1920 x 1080, but that the output via HDMI comes out at 1080p. Maybe someone else can chime in that's been through all this. Anything you can verify is greatly appreciated. The Atomos may be the best way to get the highest quality from the tape source.

A cinematographer, with talent and grace, Captures the world in a visual embrace. They're the eyes of a film, the heart of the crew, Let's explore what a cinematographer does, it's true. With the camera in hand, they frame each shot, Choosing angles and lenses, a visual plot. Lighting the scene, to set the right mood, Creating a canvas, where emotions are brewed. They work with the director, a creative pair, Translating the vision, with an artistic flair. Through movement and focus, they tell the tale, In each frame, emotions and stories unveil. From landscapes majestic to close-ups so near, Cinematographers make moments crystal clear. Their lens is a window, a portal in time, Capturing beauty and truth, in every rhyme. In the editing room, their work takes its place, As scenes are composed, at a cinematic pace. With colors and contrasts, they paint the screen, A visual symphony, a filmmaker's dream. I tired this with my 12-60mm lens and had the same results, but when I tried the stabilization modes with a lens that did not have OIS, I found the E-stabilization was creating a strong warping or jello effect around the edges of my footage. This warping/jello effect was not apparent in the Boost I.S mode, however there would be jerkiness within the footage if camera was moved. I presume that this function is only useful for steady shots.. A solution for this was that I found adding some weight to my camera (a cage, side handle, or using a heavier lens) helped lessen the shakiness. Thanks for sharing your tests 👍
