Nice review. I see these launch boxes as a novelty luxury item rather than a sensible way to start an army. That said getting the big new character and 10 cavalry and the big gun makes a nice centrepiece. I guess that points per pound its not great value but the number of kits in the box and the cards and posh codex makes it easily worth the money. I'm not a guard player myself so I'm hoping Aeldari get a similar box.

The Combat Patrol is a Dog's Dinner in itself BUT it could be the start of an army. Just get the rest of what came in the previous Combat Patrol (if you don't already have a couple of them in your pile of shame 😮😊).

I wish you would keep the sprues still!! Even when you do stop moving your hand you can't hold it actually still for any length of time so when I try to freeze the picture it's blurred! . I'm feeling seasick after watching this video!! All that being said, it's still pretty good and informative, I like how you pause on each page of the instructions for us to get a good look 😊

I like how usable is this box for Horus Heresy Militia, i'm just a bit dissapointed it has too much cavalry, i'd appreciate a second artillery battery or an infantry squad.

Man... box art has krieg Heavy Bolter team... not an option in the codex. GW really knows how to screw people with legacy army collections.

Love your painting, and those bases are incredible. I like the old stoic poses. The new ones are more bombastic. I like both, but I like the sombre attitude of the resin models.

I am not a fan of the new engineers. The old resin revolver-style shotguns were perfect, these new ones look like ridiculous nerf guns. And the blending of aesthetics of Engineers and Grenadiers is an unnecessary retcon. The Deathriders and Artillery are very cool.

Both of the new kits are a fair size bigger, but I feel the old resins engineers hide in squads of plastic ones better than the death roders

Great vid, I'm gearing up to base a Crusade around this book but for all armies, but I want to do a map of space with planets to capture and each planet has 3 regions to be captured before a planet is fully conquered. Might you think of any issues with having a map? I will administer the rules and map but not be playing, just to clarify....

Indeed, all these solar auxilary tanks are promoted to my wh40k Death Korps of Krieg. They just look way more the part, have dozer blades and extentions to cross trenches. AND, they are GW models... So Rof the God-Emperor of man, fix shovels and WALK forward Kriegers, for now we have cover fire to iluminate our enemies.

The Helm Hammerhand I thought was a little underwhelming, but I do appreciate the pose is a big nod to the film. I do kinda wish we got an armoured variant/ mounted variant of him however.

Good quick review, nice work on the paint job. I'll definitely check out your other vids I found these a little awkward to put together. Mostly an issue with the peg holes being a little too small, I widh I had clipped the pegs as these are spikey minis and hard to keep pressure pushing gaps closed while glue sets :) The minis are surprisingly large which I like very much (Except the little snake/lizard buddies, but they are a welcome bit of whimsy).

Was disappointedd to see the lotr army rule book sell out on GW, IMO a rulebook should never sell out and it's a huge detriment to having rules printed in books anyway (as a 40k player I've wanted codex's abolished for years).

Unfortunately they didn’t print enough! 😅 independent stockists have only been sent a tiny amount of books to fulfill pre-orders so there’s hundreds of customers that have to wait, even though they put their order in on the day 😢😢

Not difficult per se, but I would say the new way is easier to comprehend. I would say it takes a new player 10 seconds to grasp instead of 20...

Having a stat of 6 and needing to roll a 4+ isn't quite as intuitive as just having a value of 4+ on the stat line though!

The comment on list building is bs mate sorry to say. GW could totally appeal to both narrative and tournament style players. Why not have Narrative List Building PLUS Open List Building which could literally be a one page summary "if you want an all out war build use the units that have same region/faction keyword." Let players decide HOW they want to play and not decixe for them.

As OP said - probably licencing stuf and they NEED to force thematic army building, but they gave you full faction rosters to "check the rules <wink wink>. Now is matter of checking intelligence test by community just to allow building armies. Sadly at the start most of people failed it, but there is a lot of time to guide them.

I used to playtest for GW's Specialist Games and can confirm that was exactly how they described not crossing over distinct systems. It was a big deal then and probably is still now.

I'm pleased to see the new units and characters come out, and they do look great. However, I think I'll pass on the big box. I had a quick look at GW's prices for NZ and it's $445. That's too much for me, even with all that stuff in the box. I'll be able to get it cheaper at my FLGS, but not that much cheaper. If I do get it, it'll likely be from an FLGS in Australia for just over half the full NZ price.

Sounds horrible. But for people who live in Russia, the price of the box is also too expensive. In terms of your money, it's about 300 dollars. For me, that's half a month's salary. It's too expensive a hobby.

Nice summary. I like the rules changes but the army lists will be building is a shambles because the armies of lists are really a different movie focused thematic idea as opposed to actual lists.

The Legions aren't limited to the movies. When the changed was first announced they mentioned they'd drawn inspiration from the books as well (because they have the rights for both). Yeah, it's a pain if you've got a non-standard soup list packed with tricks that keep your opponent on the back foot, but I would counter by saying the game was always meant to be played this way. In the Filmdeg interview with Rick Priestly he mentioned how all of the initial design had to be approved by the Tolkien Estate rights holders to ensure it accurately depicted what was in the movies (as that's what the initial license was for). Also, remember that what's in the rulebook is only ever a suggestion outside of official events and the like. If you and a friend want to have a battle where the Dwarfs of Khazad Dum come to the rescue of Minis Tirith as they battle all nine Nazgul, then go for it.

1:34 the color of the plastic is what I was curious beforehand (grey vs colored). I figured since the set a president with the Rivals of the Mirrored City box also being all colored, so my guess was that these would be too.
