I am a big fan of the Warcry system, but remember when you used to get two warbands, cards, dice, books, board and a selection of terrain for your money?! 3 sprues, a book and cards for £85 (probably less than £70 from non GW sources) is far too expensive imo. Around £110 used to get a decent starter set, but this has fallen victim to GWs endless quest for greater profit. This doesn't bother the veteran players because we already have tons of terrain from the early boxes. However, it makes it much more expensive for new players to get into.

You might be right that it's the last box for Gnarlwood, but I would have loved to see the last box be a Catacombs style map inside the ruins themselves. Maybe just at least a terrain set like Scales of Talaxis, but for the inside of the seraphon ship

Instead we got anoþer tree, but wiþout any tree. I was already disappointed wiþ þe terrain since Hunter and Hunted, but I’d never considered þe possibility of going INTO þe Eye of Chotec. So sad, what could have been. 😔

I think the biggest advantage of Warcry and Kill Team is that, even though the rules are very different from “big” Warhammer, they can ease new players into the building and painting side of the hobby.

SPRUES AND BREWS!!! I love the name! Seriously that sucks me right in. Nice review. However, this box is too expensive for what you get. $10 worth of plastic, some cardboard, a book, some paper. And no real terrain! Just terrain bits! The price tag is just too much these days. TBH, I have to admit that most of it will sit unpainted/unbuilt adding to my PILE OF SHAME. I just cannot afford to do that these days. Not when GW keeps deleting and changing stuff every few years. Great review though.

How does movement work? Do you use the squares on the printed map or do models move using measurements and rulers?

It uses the full Necromunda rules, so you move in inches equal to your movement stat

The set looks fantastic I can't wait to get and build mine. Its a shame they included a paper mat rather than card though, I would have preferred to pay a bit more for a more sturdy mat that would last longer.

Yeah, I'm lucky enough to have Zone Mortalis tiles, but hopefully the included mat holds up over multiple games!

I doubt the added cost going from a poster to cardboard exceeds a pound per box. I dont think they made this decision to save cost, but rather to sell you upgrades down the line.

@@SpruesAndBrews one good option would be to mount it on MDF or something, but annoyingly from the video it looks like they printed 4 different layouts on the 2 mats, so you'd need to track down a second set in order to do all of them.

It does indeed, essentially they are able to craft weapons and armour, search for archeotech or do medical actions - talk about it a little more in our written review too on www.spruesandbrews.com

I‘m new to AoS since the beginning of the year and have only plaayed one game so far, but I‘m really excited about spearhead. This might actually be a version my wife can get into playing, since she doesn‘t like hours long games. And apparently all creators who got a preview box agree that this is the best game GW‘s done in years, if not ever. Super excited. My Yndrasta Spearhead is ready to go and I‘m going to pick up a Gloomspite Gitz one for my holiday-project :)

Have not played Sigmar since the crossover and there were no points. Play 40k now mainly. Super excited for this mode as I always wanted to come back, but did not want two large army systems.

Movement demo for fly would be nice. Im guessing its still just as bad as 40k where its actually worse to charge around ontop and down a building instead of around lol. (Its diagonal measurement im guessing still) Great review!

I don't know how I feel about this boxes big price and focus on spearhead game mode? it feels super tacky to me... The book and cards are all for spearhead, but there's no objective card system like 40k for AoS, it just feels wrong... Why not make proper objective cards for the main game, proper generals book for the main game, it seems half of this box is catering to kids who will make a 1 time purchase.

Nice that AoS finally gets their own combat patrol/boarding action type thing. I play STD but love OBS too so this will be perfect to just get a few minis, play it there, and build from there :)

I do mention it later in the review, but that symbol means that after the first time the unit is destroyed you can bring it back again in your turn inside your territory and outside of 6 of the enemy - essentially let's you recycle the unit once!

I really wish GW would stop with the two faction launch boxes. They’re too expensive for a couple of kids getting into the game and even for adults, unless you’re interested in both armies you now have the problem of selling or trading off half the box. Much better, I think, if they had two versions, with one faction each. I’d probably buy the Skaven side, but I don’t want any more Stormcasts, thanks.

These boxes aren't for new players really, they're for players that have been around for a while. The starters are what's for new players that will come out shortly after. The value in these boxes are always worth getting because if it's like the Leviathan box was, you got $800 of models for $250 without discounts. It's worth getting even if you aren't interesting all all of the items in the box and it won't be hard to get rid of the stuff you don't want in your local area I wouldn't think.

look at warhammer fantasy, there we had two boxes with just one force. but they were not cheap... its GW! ok you need first the money for the big box. but if you just want spearhead you can sell parts of both armys and core book incl handbook cards. the other way, if you want one force, you can sell the other half. guess in both cases you get a fair amount of paper and plastic for the money you spend.

They are quite durable, the Saurus Warriors have a 3+ save while on an o jective, and you can give them a 6+ ward while in your territory too, meanwhile the Carnosaur is a big high damage threat in Spearhead
