Thanks for sharing, this was such a lovely video♥ I've attempted Hourly Comics Day a couple of times, but never thought to keep a comic diary. I'm currently trying to develop my illustration skills, and only recently started drawing with ink pens, but i'm looking for a regular creative habit to help soothe my daily stresses. I like the idea of a diary format because it can evolve over time, even if I don't share it. The last few years have been really difficult and I think it could be very helpful to have a visual record to look back on when things are all too much. Thank you for sharing your approach.

Just a comment on labelling. Your front cover will depend on your folding. Mine is actually in the middle. Someone else on youtube seems to have it in the end. (The two halves on top of each other). Could I just recommend, if you are hapoy with how it's folded and looking, label and number bookket whilst it is folded. Play with it a bit.

What a lovely comment, that has made my day! And you should definitely start your own diary, there is no need to be an artist - it's just about finding your own way to record all those quirky things that make up day-to-day life. I was actually terrible at drawing people when I started so don’t let that hold you back! It’s the best possible practice - and when I look back at the early ones even the bad drawings bring back the memories very vividly so it really doesn’t matter

This book looks lovely , I loved seeing frogs in our pond too! The illustrations are brilliant, but I wondered, as an artist yourself, do you find it hard not doing the illustrations yourself after creating the story/ text?
@JanePorterPictureBooks Жыл бұрын
Thankyou Sarah! And that's a good question - especially since I started as an illustrator! When Walker Books first suggested that someone else might illustrate my text, I was a bit taken aback - very temporarily - but I soon saw that it's actually really lovely to collaborate with others, and SUCH a treat when you get to see the artwork for the first time. I LOVE what Neil did with the frogs! 💚💚💚

Jane, your artwork is gorgeous, and you have created such sweet, expressive characters! What glue do you use? Do you scan yourself? Any tips are so appreciated.
@JanePorterPictureBooks Жыл бұрын
Thankyou so much! I just use ordinary Pritt sticks - and yes I do scan it all myself, which can be tricky when the paper size is bigger than my A4 scanner. Photoshop is very useful to join everything back together again... just working on a new collage book now so watch this space!

Hi Jane, Your work is lovely and fun! I am working on a project using collage for kids. I see you use cartridge paper. I have never heard of it, but I recall heaving seen a heavy paper with flecks in it. What brand do you use? It seems sturdier than using construction paper. Your art is charming. I look forward to more videos. Thank you for sharing. I wish you much success.
@JanePorterPictureBooks2 жыл бұрын
Thankyou and I am so glad you enjoyed the video! I just use an ordinary cartridge from Cass Art (I think it's around 200gsm) - but anything will do as long as it's thick enough not to crinkle. I love papers with textures and flecks in. The great thing about collage is that there are no rules! Enjoy and I am sure the kids will enjoy it too! Thanks for watching.
