Never was isn't and never will be a better singer in any genre and a wonderful lady. Love her and Marty very much. ❤

That is not true. Buddy may have put in a good word for him but Butch Miles himself said it was Sonny Cohn one of Basie's trumpet players that got him in the Count's band.

I had the pleasure of seeing her perform here in Bradenton/Sarasota in the late 80's, early 90's. She had the audience in the palm of her hand the second stepped foot in the room. She entered at the back and jived down the aisle singing and greeting people as she went. Unforgettable !

Thanks for pointing that out. We're working on mixing a multi-track recording of the set so we'll address that eventually.

I love the panning out on the photo around the 2:41 mark, revealing a place very familiar to me - Godfrey Daniels at 7 E. Positively 4th St. in Bethlehem, PA, the place where I saw RCRs many times. It’s still there, and many of the folks who went there when it started in the mid 1970s (including me) are still going there.

There’s also an image of a Godfrey’s flyer around the 3:37 mark. I was most likely there one or both nights.

A little confused how he could be born in Ironton, Ohio while his mother was visiting relatives in Kentucky. That is quite a woman to be 2 places at one time. This sentence is 48 seconds in.

I remember seeing her when I lived in Atlanta in the early 90's. Saw her at Blind Willie's. She was old at that point but still had a poignant voice and sounded great. I remember my friend at one point looked over at me and said - "This Gold Tooth Nelly sounds incredible!" I'm like - "It's DIAMOND Tooth Mary you idiot!" And that's why the memory sticks out in my head. Good old days

I remember seeing "Diamond" Teeth in club in Miami called Tabacco Road. The oldest blues club in Miami over 70 years old. Sadly it's gone now with a 7-11 in it's place. But I remember Mary driving up in a long white limousine when she got out she was big as life. When she smiled she had diamonds on all if her teeth. The bouncer asked if he could help her and she no I can walk on my own sonny. On the 2nd floor of that tiny club she blow that place out! That was in the 90's and I never forgot her. I had great times in Tabacco Road. Miss those days.

I love this video. Way back in the 90"s, I had the pleasure of helping her shop at a local retail shop. And on the journey, we hit up the electronics dept. She had me put in a cassette and test the display model, and I immediately recognized her. I was so excited. She was such a sweetheart that she gave me that cassette. I still have it to this day. Such a treasured person. Thank you for this video

Saw the Red Clay Ramblers first at Williams College where they got snowed in and the played all night and then later in Chapel Hill, NC etc. Tommy was a wordsmith who used music to convey simple truths and human emotions.

The RCR's were a huge influence on me when I first switched from classical violin to fiddle playing. I only ever had one album that I bought at the original town cried cafe in a small town many miles north of NYC. I wore it out completely!! To finally know the back story to this wonderful band and that they're still playing is awesome!!!
