Well, I drove into major construction in Boston on my first trip and going anywhere was a nightmare. My second was a three-day trip with a girlfriend and we walked all over the city. I thought I'd pretty much seen the city, but after the Duck Boat Tour, I realized I'd missed much of the city...and many of its most charming or exciting neighborhoods. Third time's a charm!

By flying on Christmas Day, late at night! It wasn't a convenient time and I had to stay two more nights in Santiago, but it was worth it to have a business class seat for that long of a flight. It worked out well because hotel rates in Santiago were only about $100 a night. Xmas, Thanksgiving and New Year's Day often have cheaper rates if you book the ticket right about the time when people are generally celebrating.

Sorry, but this isn’t a United flight. Especially since United retired 747s back in 2017. This is a Lufthansa flight, but you probably booked it u dear United’s website. We just got back from tokyo last friday and had the same issues with the op on hop off bus! There were no markings for stops. The driver drove right by us. When we arrived to the starting point he was so rude to us. They wouldn't listen. They were so unorganized we went to complain then all of them didn't know english. So we asked for our money and took the subways and walked. It was brutal walking. DO NOT TAKE THE HOP ON OFF BUS. I believe there is another tour bus that is much better.
@seniorsolotravelАй бұрын
Sorry, you suffered too! I agree that a tour bus would have been a better option, although I think you'd still have to deal with slow traffic. Because the exchange rate was so good, I defaulted to taxis. I've heard other people rave about the ease in the public transportation, but you are right...it still requires a lot of walking! I think anyone visiting Toyko should plan to get their steps in!

Wow. Why would you need 3 collared shirts? So much long underwear. Can you not do any laundry on ship?
@seniorsolotravelАй бұрын
There was no self-laundry on the ship and I wouldn't have wanted to spend the limited time during the adventure doing it. Collared shirts were my choice to wear at dinner, but you can make your own choice....and once I was on board, I realized this ship was very casual and you could wear just about anything to dinner. Some people dressed up; some people were more casual. There was a captain's table dinner where people put a little more effort into their attire.

How did you know while walking on the fast ice that there wasn't a crevace?

They send scouts out a couple hours before each destination to figure out the route. We were assured the ice was very thick and could handle our weight...so we trusted the captain and experts on board.

We are looking at doing the British Isles. Trying to figure out whether it would be better by cruise or by land. Any thoughts?
@seniorsolotravelАй бұрын
I think I would choose land. Trains are easy throughout the British Isles and the landscape is lovely. And if you are comfortable driving on the left side, renting a car in Ireland is the best. If you plan to travel all over the Isles, don't miss the Ring of Kerry, Windsor Castle, and Glencoe. Those were my faves. Happy Travels!

As the boat excursion was cancelled I wondered how your ship coped with the seas, was it uncomfortable? Thanks
@seniorsolotravelАй бұрын
We often had rocky seas on the entire trip. Fortunately, I don't get seasick, but there were others that did. From what I understand, the north Atlantic is generally rougher than other oceans.

Aug 24-Sept 18. I booked one long cruise, but when I got on the ship, I learned that it was two cruises for most passengers. I guess I got some rare package that combined the North Atlantic cruise with a Bermuda Cruise.

Hi, like the video, very well put together! I've been looking at possibly going to Seoul for a solo trip, do you think it's easy enough for someone who is used to going to europe and doesn't speak much korean?
@seniorsolotravelАй бұрын
I was a little apprehensive too, but I thought it was fairly easy. Definitely spend some time to figure out the public transportation and download Google Translator, if you haven't already. Other than that, I think you will be fine. It seemed many people spoke English, so I really didn't have a problem. If I did run into a communication issue, they often pulled out Google Translator before me! Very friendly people. Good luck and happy travels!
@tomeccles8987Ай бұрын
@@seniorsolotravel Great, thanks for the reply! I have practiced using the papago which seems to be a good translator so that's a start! I've heard from some people eating out solo can be hard in South Korea, did you have that issue or does it seem to be easy enough to do?
@seniorsolotravelАй бұрын
My first day in Seoul worried me, because I wandered and didn't find anything to eat that seemed simple, easy and palatable. However, once I discovered that most of the coffee shops (and there are a plethora of them) serve good salads and sandwiches, I was able to find good quick food. Just so you know, I'm not one that likes to sit down to fancy meals when I travel. I just want to grab something, find a nice bench and enjoy the views and people watching while I eat. And yes, I've heard Papago works well too. Enjoy!

This was the mark 7 right? I was thinking of this camera for the same location. How did the battery last in the weather? How good was the zoom compared to your iphone? I feel like if I had a huge interchangeable lens camera I wouldn't use it as much
@seniorsolotravel2 ай бұрын
Either 7 or 8. The camera isn't with me now, so I can't check. I had the same thought as you....that I wouldn't use the big heavy camera. However, I was sorry I didn't have a better one, even for taking photos off the ship. My biggest problem was the small screen to frame the pictures. It was just hard to see compared to the iPhone, especially with blinding white all around. If you don't have eye issues, then it will probably work better for you. The pictures were definitely higher resolution than my iPhone, but not as good of a zoom as I observed from other passengers with interchangeable zoom lenses. In summary, it is a good camera and certainly lightweight, but it has its limitations when compared to interchangeable lens cameras. It wasn't quite the compromise solution I was looking for; however, I have used it frequently on other trips.
@rob150682 ай бұрын
@@seniorsolotravel Thanks! Were the people with the zoom lenses amateurs? I feel like I have no idea how to do anything other than point and shoot which is why this camera was appealing. Although its really expensive
@seniorsolotravel2 ай бұрын
I think most of them had experience with the cameras. It was definitely easier just to take photos with my phone when I was out on an excursion, because you are fumbling with gloves and trying to frame pictures quickly. It's hard for me to say whether it will be worth it for you. If you don't have to wear glasses, then it might be just fine. My sunglasses made the view screen turn black, so I couldn't see what I was framing. It is a nice camera, though. I'm with you regarding the ease of use.

Since you had 5 hours, you could have exited the airport via the arrivals level and went to the exclusive Delta One check-in area which is also on the same level re-cleared security and head back airside. This way we would have seen what it looks like for departing passengers flying Delta One from LAX.
@seniorsolotravel2 ай бұрын
I asked the attendant about the exclusive check in, and she told me that since I had checked my bags through to Edinburgh and already had a boarding pass, I would just be directed to the lounge no matter what entrance I used. I fly through LAX often, so hopefully I'll get a better understanding next time. Thanks for watching and happy travels!

@@seniorsolotravel This is one of those situations where you shouldn't have asked any agents. If you have a chance to fly Lufthansa First Class and connecting in Frankfurt to another LH flight DO NOT ask anyone. I guess everyone is different. I can sleep without privacy if I have an eye mask and ear plugs; however, the seat has to lay completely flat. That is my priority. And, I don't want someone stepping over me! The private cubicles are the best, if you can afford it.
