Trumpet of the Swans was a great book to read aloud, I read it for a group at work. The BFG was hilarious to read aloud. Happy reading😊📚 Bookworm lady

While I really enjoy the tv shows of Marple and Poirot, I do not care for the books. I think it's the writing style for me. I'm so glad you found that book that you loved so much as a pre-teen! Looking forward to hearing the rest!

It's so unusual to hear of someone else not being a Christie fan. But we can paddle our boat together, ok? And we'll read cozy mysteries instead. ☺️🛶📚

Bummer Christie doesn't work for you. I think your reasoning is why I don't like people saying her books are cozy mysteries because they are more complex than the average cozy of today. I don't think your meant to figure them out. 😀 Oh I like thst Dorothy Eden cover!😍 Hope you enjoy your picks!

I chuckled when you said you were "breaking up" with Agatha Christie. I have her on my TBR but never seem to get there. I love the Miss Marple TV series so I don't what the hold up is. (Could it be my Mount Everest TBR maybe?) I'm sorry Mrs. Palfrey wasn't an enjoyable read for you. It is a kind of sad that isn't easy to take, for sure. What I've read of Taylor so far always has a touch of something...hard to put my finger on what it is exactly. Sympathetic but underdog women, maybe? I hope Excellent Women is a Pym you'll read. I think you will enjoy that. It's my favorite of hers so far. Lots of pots of tea. And not sad! :) I'll be reading Trumpet of the Swan along with one of my grands; her class is reading it at school. I look even more forward to it because it gets a thumbs up review from you. I have a book too that I'm trying to find the title of a book I read back in the day! Your lucky experience gives me hope. I'm so happy for you, what a thrill!! Mine is a sci fi where the world's magnetic field has stopped working and causes chaos in the world. I thought it was by Damon Knight but I haven't found that synopsis yet. It could even be a short story. And he's a such prolific writer....so ARG! It makes me doubt I even have remembered it right. Looks like the next 5 should all be good reads for you. I'm up to my 10th book in this project. It's been so much fun. Has me concocting other projects I might dream up in order to tackle Mount Everest.

Buddy reads and special gifts, such a lovely haul, Tammy. Your smile throughout tells of your full heart. The 1914 Dubliners was stunning. It's a series short stories about a variety of inhabitants of Dublin, some sad, some dark, some profound, each engrossing and his writing style is superb. The cover you have of it is excellent! I read Dubliners online through a site, DailyLit, now defunct, that would email you so many pages of a classic book a day. I wish someone else would revive that idea. BTW I am not among the elite that have read Joyce's later masterpiece, Ulysses. I tried hard for a month but it was nearly gibberish to me. Joyce went on to write Finnigan's Wake which is even more serious gibberish. I'm too dumb for either of those. Dubliners is not like those. It's, well...normal.

I'm Irish; I know Joyce well (he isn't optional for us, lol). He is by no means (BY NO MEANS) my favourite author, but IMHO "The Dead" (the last story in "Dubliners") may be the greatest short story ever written in English. If you find yourself touched by it, it was adapted into a film by John Huston...sometime in the '90s.

Cuz we're book twinsies, that's how. Now that you have given me a stellar recommendation for one and mentioned me by name too, I'm gonna squeeze it in soon. Your recommendations are the gold standard for me. Naming your daughter after a book! I love that. I named my oldest Antigone. When people ask about her name, she usually starts, "Well, you see, my mom was a hippie and...." I was not a hippie. ha I was a feminist. Tess, Tess, sweet poor Tess. I love Tess. And so glad you did too so that you'll read more Hardy. I've also read Jude (big BIG heartbreak). Hardy is one of those authors I want to read of all his novels. Your videos bring me joy.
