A bird built a nest on the outside of my bathroom window in my apartment in L.A. and laid 2 eggs. Then one day it didn’t come back to the nest. I waited for a week but it never came back. I think it must have been killed. 😢

We had finches nesting over the years in our busy back door wreath. I'd always put a sign on door to close door gently. They didn't feel threatened by us and knew predators wouldn't come close to nest. Smart birds.

I love that you used a 360 camera so that there isn't an actual foreign moving object potentially scaring the birds away from the nest! I have so much respect for people who go the extra mile to admire nature but not disturb the natural order in the process. 😊😊💜💜

I feed house finches on my balcony but one of them has the eye sickness and although I disinfect the feeder every couple of days I wonder if I should stop feeding them, so the rest of them wouldn't catch it buy accident. There are 6 pairs and I am in a condo complex and its nesting season and they seem to heavily rely on the feeder now. What would you recommend?
@Lukionest Жыл бұрын
I’m no expert. Hard to know if removing their food source would cause more harm than the possibility of catching the eye sickness. Hard decision, but least you are doing your best by disinfecting the feeder.

Unfortunately, the cruelty of birds can’t be surpassed with the mother that chooses to ignore the weakest and the smallest for the rest. Often times, when baby chick dies, the mother pushes them out of the nest.

I used an "Insta 360 ONE X" camera on a selfie stick. The stick itself isn't seen because it is in the one small blind spot that the camera has, but you can see its shadow on the ground if you look for it.

I have a house finch building a nest on my wreath on my front door. I honestly do not like it there bc I fear of the egg falling out. We open and closed the front door a lot. Any suggestion on what to do? The nest isn’t fully built yet and no eggs
@Lukionest2 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert on their behavior, so I don't know what would happen if you moved it to a nearby, safer location. Maybe build a small temporary shelf for it if there isn't a good place to move it to within a short distance of the original location, but out of the way of your front door traffic. If you do move it, I suggest you wear rubber gloves to keep your human smell off the nest. If they don't continue to build on the moved nest, it probably means they found some other location on their own.

Omgosh ! I’m so happy . I hav ebarn swallows and this pair, now I know as house finish built there nest on my door reef! So now I have to go through my gagrage but I have front row through my peep hole!
@phyllisnunn20612 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you use a camera that doesn't move??? Sheesh!!!!
@Lukionest2 жыл бұрын
I did. If you read the description below the video, you'll see how I did it. The reason the momma bird was nervous at first was not because of any movement, because there wasn't any, but simply because there was a new object near her nest.

@Lukionest2 жыл бұрын
The camera never moved at all. It is a 360 degree camera that films the entire sphere around it. In the post-edit, I then selected what rectangle within the sphere I wanted to show you, and I can move that rectangle to any position. The birds never saw any camera movement.

@Lukionest3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, for the interest. Glad you enjoyed it. I used a Nikon Coolpix P950 camera, on a tripod with a Polarie star tracker to follow the Moon's motion during the last part. For the closeup of the Moon at the beginning, I zoomed all the way in for an effective focal length of 2,000 mm. I shot that at f6.5, 1/30 second, ISO--400. For the rest of the shots, I used f5, ISO-100 and mostly at 13 seconds, but a few were 3 seconds and one was 20 seconds.
