Some great moments there, although you could make a very strong case for World Championship golds by Eamonn Coughlan and Sonia O'Sullivan to be in,as well as Houghton's header and the win over England at Euro 88.Still a superb list though.

Nah. He was top scorer from play that year and also had the second highest average points from play per game. The highest was Daniel Flynn from Kildare, and he was obviously never going to win player of the year. Andy Moran was unstoppable that year. He scored three from play in the final and set up Mayo’s goal. He scored 1-1 and 1-5 in the semi final games vs Kerry, all from play. His choice as player of the year wasn’t controversial at all really.

One thing I can remember from the 2018 NZ match was jumping for joy after seeing Stockdale’s arm reach out and place the ball over the try line. What a night.
