Heard that he referred to the trumpet section as “the firing squad”. Now I know why! Stunning playing and arrangements. So glad I found this.

I think Alan Dawson’s drum solo might be the most exciting drum solo I’ve ever heard.

This is set in D major - nice and easy for the Flute and D. Bass; harder for Brass and Saxes who would prefer Eb.

Cool song, nice solo. I hate when bands tell the crowd what to do. I'll sing along if I want to.

Stan did his famous clinic with his band at a local university when I was in high school. He came up to me and pointed out my flaming red hair, and said, "Sorry, I though this was the exit sign.' It was kinda funny. I responded, 'Everyone, in the event of a fire, please follow my hair to the nearest exit.'

Great performance as always with Kenton and his irchestra. But I admit, I prefer the original recording because it has one of the greatest bass riffs ever. Not sure who played it but he was flying on that standup bass.

Just discovered Stan Kenton. After being a euphonium for almost 7 years, I quit completely and dived into avant-garde / brutal prog and progressive / art rock and mathcore as a guitarist and vocalist… But I think Kenton single-handedly is reviving my interest in classical and jazz. After hearing City of Glass (I must’ve replayed Dance Before the Mirror almost 20 times the first time I heard it), I was completely hooked.

20.12.24.KENTON UTUBE SITE.LONDON 72. is not for me. More so today than prev. Did explain on Basie site that major illness halved my auditory sense (dont mean hearing). The event was forcast 40 yrs ago bu psychics who we were working with. They said personlity change was compulsory. Apparantly nothing could prevent it. We mean fate or destiny. Was also warned that the xposure of widespread crrptn in UK that we were doing could not be stopped although I was by then determined to find some other activity. What scared us is the manic abuse we were experiencing at the hands of UK Police and HM Cts. I now realise my life was mapped from day one. We now highly powerful but sadly it was not what I dreamed of as a kid. Evidence now 1000pp. BBC said Hide It. I sometimes dont recognise my old self. Was their ever one..Am the lonliest person in universe. Truth and reality is a an antisocial issue.

As good now or even better than when I first heard Kenton's Intermission Riff played on a juke box in the local ice cream parlor in the early fifties. He will always be with us through his wonderful music.

Saw John without Willy not long after that single was released. He was great but always wanted to see him with Willy and finally managed it last month, 44 years later, at Yardbirds Club in Grimsby! One of the most entertaining nights I've ever had, they were sooo good! I spoke to John briefly and told him it was 44 years since I last saw him live. His reply was, "I'm still shit aren't I?" 😂 No John, you're most definitely not. ❤️
