You could dilute down some food grade 35% hydrogen peroxide and put some in the water.. That would help them and fight bacteria and mold.

I ordered a variety of hard red, soft white, and rye, I believe - all from Azure Standard. They are sold in 50# bags and can be found here: www.azurestandard.com/shop/product/food/grains/wheat/hard-red-wheat-berries/hard-red-wheat-organic/11656?package=GR063

How many chickens will one tray feed each day? Great way of doing it, I was thinking 2nd tray myself.
@forestmeadowfarm60858 ай бұрын
This is mostly just a supplement to their normal feed, so regardless of how many chickens I have in a pen, I will just throw one tray in, and it's gone by the end of the day. My pens range from 5-20 chickens each.

What kind of seed is that? Is that ‘chicken feed’? I’m new to all this but learning…

Thank you so much! They are taller on one side because that side is closest to the window. If you turn the tray can get even exposure. Thank you again!! We just started thus so I am excited 😊

The reason why the grains are sprouting uneavenly is because even after you've drained them, one side still retains more water than the other. You should build a small shelf for the trays to sit on and cover it with tarp, then place the shelf somewhere outside. Drill holes 1 inch apart into the bottom of the pans so that they can drain evenly. This way, you can simply water the grains with a hose or watering can and then allow the water to drain through the holes in the bottom of the pans. Thank you for your video, though. I've seen others that have shown how to do this, but yours was the most explanatory. Make sure that the shelves are slotted, not completely solid, so that the water can properly drain.

Been growing greens for our chickens for some time. I use a 2x8 ebb and flow tray and eight 1020 trays. Every other day I place 2 and a half cups of grain in a germination jar and wash and soak the seeds for two days. I then transfer to a 1020 tray in the ebb and flow . Every two days I start soaking another batch of seeds and transfer to a new 1020 and move the trays down the ebb and flow in order. Greens are ready to harvest in a week to 10 days based on your preference. Chickens get a fresh tray of greens every other day. I flood the ebb and flow tray twice a day for about two minutes with a nutrient solution with an ec of about 2.0 and pH of 5.8 to 6.2. Great nutritious treat for our flock.Good luck!

I like the fact that you used a generic aluminum pan and did not drill holes in the bottom. There's probably sufficient water in the bottom to keep the seeds and roots hydrated. *Did you use 1 cup wheat seeds per pan? *Did you soak overnight and not 24 hrs? THX for the shortened video ❤😅
@forestmeadowfarm60858 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response! I just used a generic mason jar filled 3/4 of the way up with seeds. I don't measure out the amount of seeds exactly. And yes, I soak for at least 24 hours with cold water but have done overnight if I am using warm water.

Hello, how are you? I have a livestock farm and I want to produce fodder. I have prepared the foundation for the work. I only need irrigation and nutrients for the growth of fodder. I have a question. Please answer. Thank you. 1_ What are nutrients for fodder growth? 2_ How many degrees should the water be? 3_ How many times a day should irrigation be done?

Do the trays get any sun from the window and how hot is the temperature in that spot?
@forestmeadowfarm60858 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late response! They do get late morning sun for a few hours, but we are completely surrounded by very tall pines, so it is mostly shaded for a good part of the day. The temperature in that spot ranges from 65-75 depending on the season.

Wheat berries are the edible part of the wheat kernel, including the bran, the germ, and the endosperm, before the grain undergoes any processing. :)

I have heard that longer grass it not good for them as it can form a ball in their crop. Day 6 or 7 would be max length.
@christineha5824 Жыл бұрын
This mostly refers to grass clippings, like when people mow their lawns. The sprouts stay in a mat, so they would pick at it similar to how they would pick at grass growing out of the ground - by pecking and breaking off smaller pieces. I’ve not had any issues with crop impaction in the many years I’ve been doing this. These days, I take the sprouts out between day 6-8. Just whenever I remember to do it. Lol.
@kolobkolobkolobkolob Жыл бұрын
That is true but you cut the grasses into shorter pieces although they are good at cutting up the grass themselves usually but I always cut it up for the girls and never have any problems.
