@ColeKirkpatrick, for this year‘s GRINduro, if I do the “easier” routes, do you think a 350 is fine (trails are not very technical)? Or is it still technical/gnarly and would be better suited for a two-stroke? Thx!

Cole, based on your reccomendations I want to switch to starcross 6 mid/hard, need help with tire size selection. Im on a 16 350 EXCF, mostly riding very rocky loose terrain around Austin (Hidden Falls, etc). Been running tubliss for a long time with no issues, plan to continue. Whats the optimum SC6 size for these bikes for loose rocks/babyhead singletrack? Will a "fatty" setup help me be able to charge high speed sections with more confidence? 50+B rider (TSCEC, but not racing currently). Thanks!
@ColeKirkpatrickАй бұрын
I'd go with the 90/100-21 front and a 110/100-18 rear for the terrain you described.

If you have set the suspension on sport mode, you can still make it a lot firmer (e.g. 7 clicks left on the front suspension compression). I have 2024 500 exc and it works very well on the mx track.

Already planning on getting the TSP high compression head and ECU reflash and their new bigger power valve cover. I’ve always ran Ethanol Free Super Unleaded mixed with VP race gas at 50:1 in my YZ285. Ethanol Free is way better for 2 stroke top ends. Leaves no varnish buildup in carb bikes 👍

I have a 2023 ktm 350xcf too and my 350 is always having issues the main one right now is it'll act like a 2stroke and load up and bog out when you hit the throttle even when you're riding it, if you don't have it just right it'll load up and die. When you try to start it after it does that it'll back fire and pop you can feel the pop come from the airbox when your boot is against it. Anyone have any ideas on why or what it's doing?

Hey Cole, Realize this video was posted 4 months ago, but I did not see it mentioned in your recent videos (I may have missed it). Looks you decided to go back to a 2-stroke? Did you sell the 350? Just curious what made you make that decision.

I was looking at the beta 300 for a minute but think ill go with the ktm250 instead, im riding single track up in Washington state . Any thoughts on possibly looking at huskys
@ColeKirkpatrick7 ай бұрын
The huskys are great bikes too. It comes down to what rear suspension setup you're looking for. The husky uses a linkage rear shock where the XC-W KTM's use the PDS style shock. You'll have a little lower seat height on the husky because of the linkage rear shock.

I’m only 140lbs with gear on, with my suspension on the “sport” mode per my owners manual, will I have problems bottoming out? The suspension feels pretty firm and has been redone by a certified race tech technician. wanna do some motos outside of just harescrambles.
@ColeKirkpatrick8 ай бұрын
Hi Ryan, it's hard to say but I tend to be okay with bottoming out once on my test loop. That means that I am using every bit of the travel. As long as you've got good hold up in the suspension and it doesn't feel like it's diving then you should be okay. Depending on what valving adjustments your tuner made, you should be able to just add compression to firm it up. It still won't be as good on the motocross track as a straight up moto setting would be but it will help it.

I've ridden the XC-W platform a lot since 2017 and really enjoy it. It's also the type of bikes that Russell Bobbitt and I use for the Gnarly Routes tours. Our entire fleet of rental bikes are XC-W models so the more time and knowledge I can get on the bike the better.

Good advice. If it's hot keep covered or your sweat can't keep up. Choose MX boots with good tread. It sucks when you can't stand up on the slope to self rescue. Take salty and sweet snacks to recuperate quickly if you get fatigued.
