@@andrewmatheson238 that's interesting. I would suggest going with a lighter weight and focusing on keeping your core tight. Are you driving your head into the bench? That could increase the pressure on the lower back.

Yes it is. The Hack Squat is also called a partial deadlift due to the range of motion and the ability to overload the squat weight because of said ROM.

The squat is meant to be a pushing movement, not pulling. It only counts as a squat if the weight is above the hips. Otherwise if the weight is below the hips, it's a pulling movement, and counts as a variation of deadlift.
@danielfredell27512 жыл бұрын
The squat is a hybrid movement. In the down portion you have ankle, knee, and hip flexion and on the up you have ankle, knee, and hip extension. Usually with knee and ankle extension, you have a pushing movement (leg press), but hip extension is always a pulling movement (Romanian Deadlift). The weight location has nothing to do with the movement classification. One example of this would be the belt squat where the weight is on a cable below the platform and attached to a belt around the lifter's waist. This machine is excellent at teaching the proper squat technique with no pressure on the lower back.
@michaelchitsaz32352 жыл бұрын
@@danielfredell2751 this argument has already happened lmao, this is called a trap bar deadlift with low hips. a hack squat is a weird archaic lift from the Golden era (I suggest u look it up, it looks like a gymnastic movement ). though this is kinda similar the trap bar deadlift has the same bar path as the hack deadlift ( behind the back deadlift) which is a true deadlift as it requires the bar being taken from the floor to hip height in a lockout.
@darthghitza803711 ай бұрын
Actually, if a lift is a squat or a deadlift has nothing to do with if you lift it from the floor or not, nor does it have anything to do with where you are holding the weight. It’s about the movement pattern, if you’re hinging a lot at the hips and have very little knee extension then it’s a deadlift. If you’re hinging less at the hips and extending more at the knees it’s a squat.

I'm confused how this is different than a trap bar deadlift. Is it the same?
@georglehner4072 жыл бұрын
The deadlift is a hinge movement, so the butt is higher. More glute, hamstring, lower back. The squat has the butt at the same height to the knees (as seen here). More quads, less back.
@mooncat.78711 ай бұрын
It's a partial deadlift Liam. Nothing like a squat.
@LuisGonzalez-gb4uh5 ай бұрын
When using a hex bar, anything you do will be a hybrid between a deadlift and a squat. It's a continuum. The higher the butt, the more "deadlifty" it will be. The lower the but while bending your knees, the more "squatty".

If you put something under your heels to elevate them a little it will help to keep your upper body more vertical. That way the movement will be more quad dominant. The way you did it in the video is too much of a hip-hinge movement to be called hack squat. However if your goal was to do something between squat and deadlift you nailed it. Also the range of motion was too short since your quad was far from parallel to the floor to get streched enough to get the best stimulus. You could have flipped the trap bar around and grab the other handles to improve the rang of motion or stepped on something . With your lack of knowledge about the subject you should not have made this video.

I never thought of counting a parallel trapbar deadlift as a hack squat, but I guess it makes sense since the set up is very similar. The only difference is the grip position and slight change to your center of gravity. Great vid!

Wouldn’t using the lower handles of the bar give better quad activation and stimulation?
@danielfredell27512 жыл бұрын
Depends on your height and hip mobility. Most lifters go too low and end up loading up their lumbar area.
@djsnit3 жыл бұрын
This is a squat. What the hell are you doing?
@danielfredell27513 жыл бұрын
The current nomenclature (and how I learned it) is as a deadlift. Also differs from a squat because from the ground to the knee line is a hip hinge (double flexion) and not a squat (triple flexion).
@kaydawgy19993 жыл бұрын
Looks like a regular trap bar squat
@danielfredell27513 жыл бұрын
Same thing. I call it a hack squat due to the body positioning. A true deadlift would have much less ankle flexion due to the bar being in front of the lifter's shins.
