I just came across your video. I also have some collard tree cutting in vermiculite (in solo cups) right now and I am wondering how long they can stay in there before they need some soil. It is December 2024 and I had them for about 4 weeks. Most of them got green leaves and doing well, but at others the leaves start to wilt somehow. I watered them all the same. I am just curious when to put them into soil. Later in the spring I will harden them off and put them outside. How did it go with your cuttings? TIA ! :)

You could use that water for the garden. I also put a bit of vinegar and let them sit for about 10 minutes.

My mom didn't have a dryer until 1975, she was born in 1918. Every day that was pretty she would do a load of laundry. When the rain and snow came she was caught up enough to catch a good day for laundry during those bad days.

Do I need the whey?
@homesteadingatkookergehoft81315 ай бұрын
@@frankieboola6867 It helps jump start the fermentation process and allows you to cut back on how much salt to use. But it's optional if you just want to use more salt.

Thank you. I tried your method and had success. The difference was in changing water daily. And when cutting, put them in water immediately. Thanks!

We're moving to Elkhart, TX in January to start our homestead. How's the farming out there? We're looking to have a garden and animals big enough to feed our family for the year and supply produce at the Palestine Farmers Market. Any advice?

I have so many rose of Sharon's.. They're everywhere on one side of my yard. They just propagate themselves. They're even in my neighbor's yard. They're all over my neighborhood. When i first moved into my house there was 10 Bushes side by side and they were about 14ft tall and super bushy. At one point i guess they were popular for everyone to have that they have taken over.

Thanks for this video! I was so disappointed that the yellow flowers in my yard/pasture was something fake. Not a real dandelion. Therefore useless. Now I learn it's Texas dandelion! And just as useful as the regular thing.!!😊

Rose of sharon is a non native invasive species. Just look at all those seedlings every year
@homesteadingatkookergehoft81318 ай бұрын
It's not invasive here, as it takes effort to get one to survive the first few years. And I've never seen seedlings pop up around any Rose of Sharon bushes in Texas. Maybe it's different in your neck of the woods, though.

Any guidence if you need to clean this dehydrator?
@homesteadingatkookergehoft813110 ай бұрын
So far, I've really only had to clean off dust, in which case, I spray it down outside with the water hose and let it air dry. If something nasty has gotten on it, I would probably clean by hand with dish soap in a large container or in the bathtub, then spray off with a water hose or a shower head.

This happened to me yesterday morning. I had woken up to my son crying and went to get him some milk for my wife. After I gave her the milk I noticed I just felt super tired and my legs were crazy weak and just felt off. I knew this feeling though because it had happen to me before and I prepared myself just in case. I sat on our bathroom toilet and when I stood up my vision started going black and I saw black dots everywhere as I started stepping into our bedroom it got worse and I started sweating heavily and my heart beat was very fast. I went close to the bed and just threw myself there and nearly passed out but caught myself again and quickly grabbed a blood pressure monitor I keep in my nightstand I don’t even remember the numbers but all I know is my blood pressure had to be crazy low. Went to the ER they did EKGs and they came out fine with also X-rays scans they came out good. Blood tests were fine as well. They ended up giving me IV fluids and it helped. Next day I’m at work now and I can say I feel better just very anxious because of it and still a bit dizzy as well overall though drink your water please!

I have not had a dryer for over 28 yrs. & don't miss it. Dryers are hard on fabric. They break it down. Line drying will make things last a LOT longer. But I see what you're saying. Sometimes I've laid a hand towel on top of a pillow if there's going to be any reason the pillowcase could get messed up....

DOu think .. it would b a good idea 2 put a little sprinkle of pottin mix in water ?
@homesteadingatkookergehoft8131 Жыл бұрын
Once you put potting mix in, it's much more difficult to clean the stems and change the water. I would wait until there are good roots, then you could change the water one last time and add potting soil to slowly transition it to soil only.

Thank you for sharing this! I have a bunch of these in my backyard that I left for the bees and was wondering if it would be safe to dry the leaves and roots out to make tea.
@homesteadingatkookergehoft8131 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a great plan to me! Any part of the plant can be harvested whenever, but I've heard it's most ideal to harvest leaves in the spring and roots in the fall.
