What a great idea with the friendship benches where grandmas can support people in their communities. This type of needed interaction and community was how people lived for thousands of years, it is just recently that we have become more isolated with just our nuclear families. I am sure this “bench therapy” also lifts up the wise grandmothers who see how much they are needed and can help others. I also loved hearing about the benches where people who feel like talking can just sit and talk with others who are open and feel like connecting. Great video, have a great week.

Thank you, Tara! Once I heard someone say that kids are not meant to be raised by two people in single family household (or easy and quick access to larger support) and that really stayed with me. Only now I truly understand the importance of grandmothers. And it's not even their wisdom, care and love that we all need, but simply their presence. I'd love to see friendship benches everywhere! Or happy to chat benches :) Sending well wishes all the way from Lithuania! 🇱🇹

I am not too far away these day. I am in Paris now visiting a friend of 30 years and then going to watch the Olympics. Tonight she had friends over for dinner and they were talking about liking to talk to people in the check out lines and I told them the story you shared about where they have dedicated lines at the market for people who want to go slower and talk with the cashiers. They liked that!

My family and I love enough stuff. We have shopped and donated. I went there short on cash and was starting my first real professional job and was able to find some good pieces to round out my wardrobe and I donated what I could afford with no obligation of course! All of the volunteers are always so nice. And as a person growing up with not much, it is probably so freeing for kids when they shop there, they know they can afford everything! ❤❤

Thank you for the video. You learned how to be free. It is so nice when we learn to go more with the flow of life. I spent yesterday with my sister, niece, and daughter and like you mentioned without relationships and people to share things with, life feels empty. My sister also made the observation that she learns a lot from watching her Labrador Retriever . . . her dog likes to eat, drink, get fresh air, be near the ones she loves, get some movement in, play, and spend time each day in the sun. Her dog is loving life too. I told my sister about your phrase “now what?”and how we need to listen to what we need in each moment. She liked that calming way of going through the moments of the day and being intuned with how we feel. I never heard lions growl like that to each other either. It really does get one’s attention. Thanks for sharing that clip.

@johnrainsman6650
@johnrainsman6650 Ай бұрын
There's something I learned about myself that I don't like: I'm full of prej udice, and respect people for the _wrong_ reasons. It depends on the person and circumstances. For example, it turns out, I think neurotypicaIs are better than people with ASD. I HATE this about me: I think "lesser" is a word to match those on the spectrum--social skills, brains, personalities, normality. I write them off as inferior and abnormal. And it's not as simple as "change the attitude"; it's *_automatically_* in me, the way I feel, whether consciously or subconsciously. I'm sorry, guys; I'm ash amed of myself. It turns out I also think people who don't have learning disabiIities are smarter than those who do have them. And that's what brings me here. My ex-coworker (E.C.) always seemed like a slow learner, and he has made some mistakes at work. Plus, he graduated at 20 at a small charter school, he still lived with his mom at 28, and he didn't have a driver's license. I'm a student leader at my college's catering business, and I learned that the guy had signed up for a service by himself. I thought it was a bad idea, so I went to our boss. She was upset. Told EC she didn't think he could manage alone and was all "I've told you not to sign up for shifts by yourself, I've been very clear about that, I don't know how much clearer I can get for you to listen" and she told him he needed someone there to guide him. Well, that night, he saved a life and was very quick and resourceful (long story short, to subtract the length). My boss apologized for beIittIing him, said he was amazing, and she believed in him to work the shift alone. But he refused and quit. Told her she didn't _truly_ respect him; it was all conditional and her "He-is-incompetent" view would've stayed otherwise. Well, I'm practically as pathe tic as her. I didn't *_consciously_* think EC was a Ioser. I *_automatically_* thought he was one. Like, I didn't say or think the word about him, but I just felt it in me. But I was wrong. I think noble of him now, but only because of what he did, not because of who he was. I put certain people (auti stics, learning-disabIed folks, kids at EC's charter school instead of the local public high school, etc). on the "weak list" until they do something to impress me. I don't like myself.

Thank you for sharing! Your power lies in your awareness - s long as you are conscious of your automatic reactions, you have the power to pause and choose a different thought. As a coach and as a human, I'm always curious to know how our automatic reactions form, why and what function they serve. In other words, you can ask yourself with curiosity - "what is the function of this automatic reaction? What do I get from it?" I think curiosity is this powerful quality that allows us to change.
@johnrainsman6650
@johnrainsman6650 Ай бұрын
@@vitajanas Not automatic reaction exactly. Automatic feeling and perspective. Autstics are lesser; kids at a small charter school are inferior to kids at a local public high school; you can't be smart if you go there and graduate at 20. And it turns out, I even think that people without down syndrome are better than those who do have it. And I don't change my "they're-weak" view until they prove they're strong, which turns out to be the only access to my respect for them. I'm disgusted with myself; I don't _consciously_ think nasty things; I just feel it in me, and it's not as simple as "choose a different thought." I'm almost as bad as my boss when she disrespected and "respected" our zero-to-hero

Oh I love that you did an interview. Well done. I enjoyed listening. I love how Laa said it is about making connections and she is not so concerned about how she looks, she is going to be real and post what and when she feels inspired. I think when we have children it makes us think of the circle of life and that we are here for a short time so why not share and document moments of our life. In a way I think we appreciate life more. I also feel that as women most of us are really focused on starting our family so once we do we are changed and have a sense of accomplishment and in a way can relax because we get our dream to become parents. It also teaches us to be giving of our time, become educators, and really appreciated the connection between people. Finally we learn a lot from our children. Even seeing how excited they are about life and nature uplifts us. When you watch your son on the beach for the first time, it is magical because you share in their joy and in a way get to relive your own childhood. One final note, nothing makes you appreciate your own parents more than becoming a parent yourself and realizing what is involves first hand. Keep inspiring us Vita and Laa. Thank you.

Beautiful hair and smile. I liked the clever intro and the second change was such a surprise. Great information in this video. I am going to make sure that I read 10 pages a day. My former company had 3 community service days a year that you could take and still be paid for those days. That was fun and meaningful to do volunteer work with coworkers. Enjoy being free from braces! I know how great it feels. 😀

Excellent video. I really enjoyed learning about the different contests around the world. It was interesting too how each person has a different yodeling style. I guess it is like singing, people interpret the music differently and each person has a unique voice. What made my week was seeing plants I planted just sprouting yesterday and also booking a tropical, Hawaiian vacation to Oahu for next year. I have not taken my family since 2018 and this will be an island that my daughter and son have not yet visited. Plus we are going with our best friends who have the same aged kids, so that will be wonderful.
