Absolutely stunning show of dahlias. So, as a flower grower, seeing that Sanya Gold had me searching the internet and it's nowhere to be found 😞
@johnthrasher80683 күн бұрын
Try searching Sandia Gold - it's a fairly new variety from the US. It was by far my favorite variety in the entire video.

Wow all your plants are coming on great Dave ,some work there to keep them all going well done you ,am looking forward to seeing them all out in bloom. Thanks for showing the feed you give them ,what is the yellow box one as did not catch the name where would I get the bag you mention please. My own plants are not doing good the leaves all to big no sign of any buds This time last year I had a nice bloom from mid July Not looking good this year (although I have no clue what I am at ) Thanks

The yellow tub is what I pour the bag into, so same stuff. I get mine from Fargro, but they are trade only, so you may have to Google it.

Amazing Dave them plants have fairly shot up for you. I have 2 questions please. You say feeding with a balanced food,what would you use,as they are very healthy good green leaves and the other question why the barley straw, is it for heat or weed control. Mine own are not doing good have slug pellets down and all and something is enjoying them as the leaves are riddled with holes...doing my head in But def not growing like yours. Nice video Thanks
@DaveGillamDahliasАй бұрын
The straw holds moisture and keeps rhe ground cool and consistent temp. I use soulubol I think it's called feed. Will show the bag in next video. I get 3 bags to cover the 3 different feeds. Yes I have used plenty of slug pellets.

Why are the support sticks tilted? Do you connect them with string later? Thanks.

Yes 2 more are added then tied around. Next video will show more. Tilted as plants get wider as they get taller.

Hi Dave wonder could you tell me how much water should I give my plants and how often should I feed and with what,I saw monty on tv a few days back he says seaweed liquid is good for them, whats your thoughts . My plants leaves are not dark green like yours,thanks
@DaveGillamDahlias2 ай бұрын
a good water a couple of times a week, maybe 3 if its very hot. Feed every one to two weeks and Seaweed is fine for this time of the year then use a Tomato feed when the buds start forming.

Hi dave ive got to grow some dahlias for my daughter's wedding on september 21st ive planted out 180 plants mainly exhibition varieties, do you think i would need to cover them like you do incase of rain ect spoiling the blooms? Also just wondered what spacing is the posts are on the cover, and do you have to concrete them in or just firm soil around them, i have 3x3 fence posts are they ok, also when does the cover need to go on like how long before picking? Many thanks, realky enjoy your videos 👍
@DaveGillamDahlias2 ай бұрын
Not for the purpose you need them for.

Does the straw deter the slugs as I have trouble of them attacking my plants

I find it does help, but not a solution.

What straw should I be looking for Dave? I'm a little worried about bringing in a bunch of seed.
@DaveGillamDahlias2 ай бұрын
Barley straw is best. You may get some barley growing, but is easy to pull out.

Hi dave just wondered how much space you leave between the double rows also when you build the frame to cover tge plants what are the spacing ect of the upright timbers and do you have to concrete them in many thanks for sharing your videos 👍

currently building a minature version for in my greehouse for setting my onions away during the winter months. how has yours held up? did you need to steak it sown for the winter winds? looks like you would get alot of water and snow sitting on that lid shame you couldnt have done a tiny apex in the middle
@DaveGillamDahlias3 ай бұрын
It's only for a few weeks protection in the spring so snow not a problem. The lid up most the time and side fixed the stakes in the ground.

@jhc8393 ай бұрын
Thank you for being so generous with your videos. Re cuttings, have you thought about using an aero garden to start cutting? I have had unexpected success in rooting. However, I think there will be some transplant shock going from a hydroponic environment to soil.
@DaveGillamDahlias3 ай бұрын
@jhc839 generally get 99.9 percent on rooting, just one family that is always a pain at the time you want them. Root like weeds between January and March then say nope in April. I think it's a day length thing with them.
