Scoped the airfield out on Google Earth from my office and yesterday after a meeting nearby got in to my running gear for a run around the runways after parking in car park of nearby village shop. Main gates to the site wide open but I hopped over the locked gates of the taxiway just before there, tracing a route around all of the runways which was around five miles. I exited the airfield via a track which traces the hedgerow adjacent to the airfield memorial garden, got over the fence to where the memorial is to take a photo and pay my respects, then ran up the lane towards the village, turning left towards the village church, finishing off my little adventure by checking out the airfield memorial window in the church.

What a huge school. You would have thought that something this size would be repurposed for something else, or just have it pulled down. Did you take any of the DVDs with you?? 😅 The videos are a lot livier now that you've got a buddy with you, and you're chatting with each other as you explore.
@DRSEXPLORING3 ай бұрын
I was very tempted with the DVD's but i like to keep to the 'code'. It was a huge school to explore but the rest we were unable to gain access. It is difficult to explore with other people due to trying to arrange locations and times eg. I think its a Listed building not to sure it needs massive amount of money to re-fit it electricity, and water those kind of things.

Its a shame you didn't go into what you called offices at 20.00 I spent six weeks at Southern Ambulance college in 1993. That building (20.00) was known as "Treadwell House" It was designed so that almost any rescue scenario could be replicated, from hangings from the exposed loft rafters, to someone stuck in the sewer. We used to do a stretcher race around the building. Some poor individual would be strapped into an immobilisation stretcher and then carried around the house, being passed from one team to another through every obstacle. We also had a surprise major incident there. We had just finished another exercise and were all exhausted and they had placed casualties in various rooms around the building and then filled it with so much smoke that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I remember grabbing one of the patients and getting her into a fireman's lift then carrying her down that fire escape at the front of the building! Her reaction was priceless! If you get an opportunity, that building would be worth a really good investigation!! Thanks for bringing back the memories, many a laugh was had in that bar!!!

@@DRSEXPLORING No, I was based in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire You didn't go into the most interesting building which like I said was the one at 20.00 minutes with the fire escape on the outside. I'd love to explore that one again as it was great, with dry sewers and exposed rafters etc

I stayed here about 18 years ago for a choir tour at the Abbey. I was probably 16 or so at the time, and was due to stay with a friend in a twin room for the tour but, for the first night, we were advised this room wasn't available. Instead, the hotel had reserved two individual rooms, one in the new wing and one in the old. I offered to stay in the old building as my friend was keen on the room in the new. Arriving up to the room, I found a lovely, bright space. There was a narrowish corridor into a larger room, with a four poster bed and a large window overlooking a garden. Pleased with it, I dropped my bags quickly to get to the first rehearsal, and left. It was only late at night that I got back and was getting ready for bed when, whilst brushing my teeth, I became aware that the atmosphere in the room had changed. Despite having only just come from the main room, I felt sure there was now somebody there. Most curiously, I had the strongest feeling that the person was actively waiting for me. The next few hours were filled with me sitting up with the lights on, frightened and full of adrenaline, determined not to look away from the area in front of the window where I now felt sure there was a lady standing. Although I couldn't physically see somebody, and there was no menace or bad feeling from her, I felt apprehensive as to why she was waiting and didn't want to look away and back again to see her, and particularly, to see her any nearer to me. After about 3 hours, I was eventually overcome by sleep and, as I drifted off, I became aware of the lady coming across the room to sit at the side of the bed. In the blurry space between wakefulness and sleep, it seemed she sat there for quite a while. The next morning I woke to bright sun through the window (the room probably brighter for the lights still being on). My second realisation was a surprisingly sad one: I was alone. The lady had gone. Now, the room was filled again with the same quiet, quaint charm it had been when I'd careered into it with my bags the day before. Feeling settled in the room now, I got ready for the day, and met my friend for breakfast in the hotel. On walking back from the breakfast area with my friend, past the main staircase to the desk to arrange access to our originally-booked room, I couldn't help myself: "Excuse me but do guests ever say they think the hotel is haunted?", I asked the receptionist. She looked me straight in the eyes for a few seconds without saying a word, but wearing an expression that indicated she knew why I was asking. "Yes," she said "guests often say they feel the presence of a lady in some of the rooms." I didn't explain my experience to her. I somehow felt I didn't need to. But I do often think of it: how glad I am to have stayed there alone in that room in the end and how oddly, unexpectedly caring and positive the experience felt.
