Remember in japanese culture saving face is very important. The two arguing officers had opposing views and one had to back down, but slowly.

With the exception of the depiction of the brave nurses, i would say tora is a better picture than pearl harbour. Tora has no cgi and no campy love story to distract from events.

It is one of the ironies of history that some 80 years after this battle, the United States has now been forced to begin withdrawing from the territories it had controlled around the world, weakened by outsourcing too much of its logistics and production chains overseas.

Darker, yes. I prefer to think of it as more refined. They took all that was good in Band of Brothers, and asked the questions - How can we make this FEEL more realistic to the audience? and How can we make it even more realistic from a practical standpoint? The writers & researchers took it from there, with a bigger budget to work with. This is the result.

18 December 1966 is when this classic 25 minute cartoon debuted on CBS. I was 7 years old (65 now) in December 1966, and fondly remember this every Christmas there after. I even had the original children's book by Dr. Seuss, published in 1957. We had all those wonderful Christmas shows for kids back then.

Tora Tora Tora is one of the most accurate war movies of its era. It also made amazing use of practical effects. It covers both the political and military aspects during and leading to the battle so well and pays respect to both sides. Pearl Harbor, by contrast, is a movie I refer to as "The Most Historically Accurate Historically Inaccurate Movie of All Time." You read that correctly. Basically, PH is a movie where most of what you see DID happen historically, but is so far off from correct portrayal of what exactly happened, how it happened, or who it happened to that when coupled with the sappy late 90s romance it is almost to painful for a person who knows actual history to suffer through...good music though.😂

Tora Tora Tora was my favorite by far for its straight forward accuracy and not so much drama. I quickly became bored with the other movies which offered little more than shock and romance...

Tora, Tora, Tora is a historical movie. Pearl Harbor is a romance movie that does not do justice to the tragedy of Pearl Harbor. The attack by the Japanese was total destruction of the Pacific Fleet. That didn’t happen. Why? Where were aircraft carriers that the Japanese were so desperate to destroy? The US had been tracking the Japanese movements for 6 months. Roosevelt knew the Japanese were going to attack. He prepared a speech on December 6 for a declaration of war on Japan. He waited until December 8 to deliver it, why? The US did not want to enter the war. Roosevelt needed them to want to enter the war. He needed the Americans to rally and what better way than sacrificing a few sailors. Yamamoto knew they had committed a terrible atrocity by attacking without first declaring war. Knowing that the aircraft carriers were not in Pearl Harbor, he knew it was a waste of time to go back and try and finish off the battleships.

Hey I messed up earlier. the big statue is not right. It was a big cross at the Scoffield Barracks commemorating the lives lost during the attack. Someone filed suit in 1998 and had it removed on the grounds of separation of church state. I am speechless. but there it is. That cross was not there until after World War two and is the only "glitch" in the film that I can positively identify.

Tora Tora is actually a World War II movie Pearl Harbor isn't . the World War II movie Pearl Harbor isn't actually about Pearl Harbor it's about a random love story. oh yeah in real life a air force would definitely let you leave to join another Air Force than that air force would let you leave to rejoin the first then they will put you on a top secret bombing Mission when you're not a bomber pilot you're a fighter pilot

The Declaration of War. Oh Gawd. Nagumo has no orders to WAIT. He has strict orders to ATTACK. Communications just aren't that fast. All this Japanese TIMING was supposed to be AUTOMATIC. Tojo didn't really care. But the civilians in government were really trying to play "by the rules". Only Yamamoto understood what was coming when the declaration of war wound up being 90 minutes LATE! All because they could not get a decent typist with security clearances.

So I am at the point where they talk about two main pulses. You are about to witness the finest aerial choreography ever filmed. Some of the footage you are about to see, were gags that went horribly wrong. No one was hurt but some of those guys who look like they are fleeing for their lives, really ARE fleeing for their lives!

Yup. Since then confirmed sunk. There were I think three or maybe six,. There is a photo from the attack that seems to indicate that one of those two man subs got into the harbor and got one torpedo off. This is disputed. and the photo had not been discovered when the film was made.

And that poor typist. He can't even touch type. My mother, on a typewriter like that could hit 70 words per minute, 60 words per minute "legal" copy, which is letter perfect no mistakes. You have to rewrite the whole page if you make a mistake in those days. And that poor guy is hunting for the keys and typing by what used to be called "Hunt and Peck". But he has a security clearance!!!!!
