Still relevant. You can take cues of how the world would look if the country has more power by looking at life in the country itself. I’m sure millions of people would never want to live in country like Pakistan, Iran, China or Russia. Their own people barely want to

Sure you can be deliberately dense and believe that the US invaded Iraq because they are spreading democracy around the world and the US army is there to save the Iraqis or the Afghanis from these dictators or the other million reasons they gave while going around the world killing millions of people and destroying countries left and right. And voila! you can claim moral superiority because you said you had noble intentions and we believe you

The argument of German death count vs Americans in WW2 is utterly feeble. First of all, most of the German casualties came from the east, not the west. But most importantly, reasoning by analogy of the body count of WW2 and the number of atrocities that Israelis and Palestinians have committed on each other is just ridiculous.

Morality is a human construct: it has always been people who have decided what's right and what's wrong, and will always be that. It goes to say that morality changes through time, and through different cultures. What was right yesterday might be wrong today, and what's wrong today might be right tomorrow. No one has a monopoly on being righteous, and every nation, religion has skeletons in its closet. In some way, might makes right. Had Hitler won the war, we would be praising the virtues of fascism, had Stalin won, we would be praising the virtues of communism. The Allied countries won, and for better or worse, we have democracy. But for how long as the West is in decline? We live in a dynamic world, things change, and so will the dominant morality. Perhaps Islam will dominate and impose its morality on the world, or perhaps China will supersede the US and we'll all be learning Mandarin. But if history has taught us anything, it is that conflict is inevitable. Be prepared or risk being swept by the torrents coming your way.

I have had gay friends. Been hit on by some gay dudes. I always laughed and said thanks sorry I'm not that way. I used to go to this day club. Straight people went there too. I set at this table with the same people. One night this young black guy ask do you just come here or you really coming here. I said i just come here it's fun that's it. He never ask again and understood. Didn't bother me. No man ever pushed to hard or came out of pocket.

Sam misrepresents Chomsky’s objection. Chomsky’s real comparison is more like a man who runs over puppies with his lawn mower on purpose versus a man whose intention is to cut his grass and is willing to run over puppies with his lawn mower to do so. Both men are clearly morally reprehensible. It’s not clear to me that the man with the intent to kill puppies is much worse than the man who is willing to kill puppies for some self-serving goal. In any case, both are very bad.
@kennyprice5017
@kennyprice5017 2 ай бұрын
Those people have the same intention they have the same lack of concern for the puppy’s life there’s no difference between there intentions.if you are willing to kill the puppies, then that is a claim about your intentions
@criticalcog6363
@criticalcog6363 2 ай бұрын
@@kennyprice5017 I understand what you are trying to communicate, but intent has a clear definition, and in the example I gave, the intent of both men is different: for the one, his intent is to mow the lawn; for the other, his intent is to kill puppies. When you mow the lawn, is your intent to kill grasshoppers? Obviously not, but that is an ineluctable consequence of mowing the lawn.
@kennyprice5017
@kennyprice5017 2 ай бұрын
@@criticalcog6363 in your first example it’s not as though person B inadvertently killed the puppy, you could’ve made that claim, but that’s not the claim you made you said that person B is willing to run over puppies clearly both of these people have bad intentions towards puppies. That’s the relevant variable.
@criticalcog6363
@criticalcog6363 2 ай бұрын
@@kennyprice5017 No, person B's intent is not to kill puppies, but they care so little about them that they don't bother to move them when mowing the lawn (mowing the lawn being their intent). I'm not sure why this is difficult to understand. People do it everyday with grasshoppers. You don't intend to kill grasshoppers when you mow--you're indifferent about them. What you want to do is mow the lawn, but it doing so, many grasshoppers die. The puppy example just makes it more visceral.
@kennyprice5017
@kennyprice5017 2 ай бұрын
@@criticalcog6363 No, they both intend to kill the puppy just at different times and in different ways person A Runs a puppy over because he enjoys running puppies over ok fine in contrast, person B is just so careless heartless that rather than simply moving the puppy, he runs it over at that point he has made the decision to run a puppy over. This is a claim about his intention clearly, both these people are moral monsters who have a total lack of concern for a puppies life yes the details of how they got there are different, but they’re not different in a way that makes person B any less culpable for his actions.Clearly, the psychology of killing a cricket is not the same as killing a puppy puppies have a wider range of actual and potential experiences then crickets do valuing puppy lives over cricket lives is not an arbitrary preference. It’s grounded in facts about their capacity to suffer.

No certainly has dealt with the intentions Sam period no I'm chopsky is a genius and for him do not think about intentions in a moral situation is ridiculous period what he is saying is that pretty much all people who have ever committed atrocities say an express a narrative that has positive intentions Period this is an indisputable fact throughout history and it is very easy for anybody to fall under this impression that we are the good guys period and the US is especially tricky because I do think we are the good guys in a certain sense but being so convinced that we're the good guys we're blind to anything bad that we do . Now you're seeing a backlash where even the right-wing is so disillusioned with war because of the forever war in Afghanistan and Iraq... Even to the point We're the current conservatives and right-wingers in Congress and Media are totally against any intervention in the Ukrainian War.

Another point is that you cant compare countries with different levels of power. If ISIS had the same power America did, there is no question the world would be worse off. Their genocide against the kurds and yazidis is already enough to say this.

Islamic rule in India was a form of colonialism, characterized by the imposition of a foreign islamic culture, religion, and political system on the Indian subcontinent. Muslims were foreign invaders who came to India and imposed their Islamic faith and culture on the indigenous population. They point to examples of the destruction of Hindu temples, the imposition of Jizya tax on non-Muslims, and the forced conversions to Islam as evidence of this colonialist mindset.

I seem to be the only one underwhelmed by Noam Chomsky. Every comment on every interview seem to be overflowing with praise of him as one of the greatest geniuses of all time.
