@@zlanNickel There is more going on than I am inclined to type into a KZbin comment, but we were unable to get them operating while wired into the main panel due to wiring faults. We removed this one unit to study by itself, and will return it to the main panel once we have corrected the wiring faults now that we understand how it’s supposed to work.

Glad this railroad bridge has been preserved. What industry did this Savage Branch originally serve? I'm guessing there was a mill or quarry that the branch was built to serve. I've seen the other bridge (not a Bollman) up near Columbia that was part of this same branch.

I just received some samples of assorted sizes of Nitinol wire, which I intend to test the next time I’m in the shop on Savannah. I’ll likely do a followup video. I hope to eventually devise a way to operate these gauges realistically so we can have the entire control-panel appear to be operating. This video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2ObqX2ao7d4i80 is just a pan over the entire panel to record all the instruments. There are additional instruments and controls in the corridors adjacent to the main Control Room.

Way ahead of you there: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i36yd4Nui52Xgrc The purpose of THIS video is to make a permanent record of the appearance of the control panel at this point in time. We’ve just conducted an inventory of the numbers of each color lens on the lamps, because we plan to replace all 500 of the incandescent bulbs with LEDs, and want to purchase the correct numbers of the correct colors of LEDs to match the lenses. If a particular lamp has a blue lens, we want a blue LED for the best results. Nate also this video of my test to see if the Bailey Pneumatic meters can be operated electrically via a piece of Nitinol. If so, we can operate the meters without having to restore the entire pneumatic system. What you DON’T see from the front of the panel is that about half the instruments have copper tubes running to them to drive them. It’s a plumbing nightmare back there. The electrical wiring is screwey. Everything is 120 volts AC, mechanical relays and vacuum tubes. Ou ultimate aim is to have a modern minicomputer running software that emulates a live reactor, so the instruments can respond to the control-settings and the whole thing becomes an interactive educational display. That’s part of the more grandiose plan to turn the entire ship into a museum, and open it to the public.

Beautiful, I'm surprised it was such a bright yellow, modern gas typically burns bluish or not very bright at all
@fredblonder7850 Жыл бұрын
The color is determined by the heat of the flame, which is in turn controlled by the amount of air mixed in. A fanjet such as this does not have any air-inlets, so it burns pretty cool, so it’s a very buttery yellow. This can be clearly demonstrated with a Bunsen Burner, which has an adjustable air-inlet. You can close it completely, in which case it burns with a lazy yellow flame, the same as this gaslight, or you can open it all the way, in which case it will burn blue like a blowtorch, and the shape of the flame will go from short and flickering to long and narrow. The gas is the same: methane. A gaslight is designed to emit light. A stove-burner is designed to emit heat. If you take a gas-stove apart, you will find an adjustable air-inlet shutter at the base of the burner.

I was 5:40 on May 19th, one week earlier. I did engineer. I previously did jump-seat last October. I wanted to see someone else do engineer before I did. Question: Did you find the throttle very heavy to pull? I needed both hands and had my feet braced against the bulkhead. The crew said that was normal, but it really seemed like the whole throttle linkage needed thorough lubrication.

@fredblonder7850 when we got started I was nervous because everyone said the same but I had no problems with it once I got used to it. The fine tuning stuff it was a little harder but I found the reserver to be harder lol just because I wasn't expecting it to take so longer to move. I felt right at home with the controls, which was something I didn't expect
@fredblonder7850 Жыл бұрын
@@RyanHatterer-Ryanns999 I noticed that as well. The reversing lever actually required very little force to move, but moved slowly. I expect that’s because it’s not working the valve-gear directly (as it would on a much smaller locomotive) but is working a steam-powered servo, and it can only move as fast as the servo moves.
